New Alien Arena 2011

Planet Arena now offers a new version 7.51 of Alien Arena 2011, COR Entertainment's freeware first-person shooter which uses an open-source game engine based on GPL id Software source code. For the unfamiliar, here is part of how the developers describe the game: "This game combines some of the very best aspects of such games as Quake III and Unreal Tournament and wraps them up with a retro alien theme, while adding tons of original ideas to make the game quite unique." The new version includes a rewrite of BSP surface rendering providing what they call a "massive" performance improvement. All the details are in this change log.

Warcraft III Patches

Blizzard Support now offers new patches for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos and Warcraft III: Frozen Throne, bringing the real-time strategy sequel and its expansion to version 1.25b. Those who own the base game need only install the Reign of Chaos patch and owners of the Frozen Throne expansion will only need that patch. There are a dizzying number of possibilities as there are incremental and full patches for Windows and OS X in various different languages. The full Reign of Chaos patches can be found here and the incremental 1.24e to 1.25b patches are here. All of those are mirrored on AtomicGamer and The Patches Scrolls, while there's a mirror of the English patches on Gamer's Hell. The full Frozen Throne patch is here and the 1.24e to 1.25b upgrade patch is here. Likewise they are all mirrored on AtomicGamer and The Patches Scrolls, and the English patches are mirrored on Gamer's Hell.

Cars 2: The Video Game Trailer

A new teaser trailer shows off Cars 2: The Video Game, the upcoming tie-in with the Pixar animated movie sequel. The Game is due in June for Windows Xbox 360, PlayStation3, Wii, and DS, and here's a bit on what it entails: "Inspired by the upcoming Disney•Pixar animated film, Cars 2: The Video Game lets players jump into the Cars 2 universe with some of their favorite Cars personalities in exotic locations around the globe. Continuing the storyline from the upcoming film, players can choose to play as Mater and Lightning McQueen, as well as some brand new characters, as they train in the international training center - CHROME (Command Headquarters for Recon Operations and Motorized Espionage) to become world-class spies. They’ll take on dangerous missions, compete to become the fastest racecar in the world, or use their spy skills in exciting, action-packed combat racing and battle arenas. Players can race against friends and family in either single or multiplayer modes with up to four players to unlock challenging new tracks, characters, events and thrilling spy missions."
