It turns out there can be only none when it comes to the planned series of Highlander games based on the movies featuring a race of immortals with a penchant for sword fighting. Plans for the series were announced by SC1 in 2004, and the last bit of info on theses games we recall was the launch of a couple of websites in early 2008. IGN has news on the cancellation from Square Enix, who inherited the project when they acquired Eidos, but reasons for the move are not supplied. Thanks Ant.
The Natural Selection 2 Website has news of a new build 159 that's now available in the beta of the action/strategy sequel in the works at Unknown Worlds (thanks Joao). The new version is intended to address a couple of issues they found that were causing server performance slowdowns, adding that another patch is expected next week with further improvements. The patch notes follow. Continue here to read the full story.
The TrackMania Forums have word on changes operation of TrackMania Nations Forever, the free version of Nadeo's racing game. They say players with free accounts are now restricted to direct access to freezone servers, which are hosted by Nadeo, explaining that change is prompted by the closure of Massive, Microsoft's in-game advertising service. There is a way around this, however, as they add that players will also be able to join other servers (such as the Blue's News TrackMania Server) through their favorites list, saying: "We are aware that the game can't be bought by many (even in some nations) This is why we keep the solution to enter a server with the favorite list function. This list will be reset and limited to three for free account. A server can simply be added through a tmtp link like this 'tmtp://#addfavourite=serverlogin'." Thanks peteham.
The 2K Games Forums have the list of changes planned for the next patch for Civilization V, which is expected on or before December 16 so that it will arrive in advance of the just announced Civ5 add-on. The extensive change list follows. Continue here to read the full story.

Open beta testing is now underway for Loong: The Power of The Dragon, a free-to-play MMORPG from gamigo, who invite European and North American players to take part. Word is: "The community around Loong was enthusiastic about the game during closed beta testing already, and now gamigo is upping the ante. As the game moves into open beta, not only have bugs been fixed and localization improved, the level cap will also be raised from level 50 to level 80. Closed beta old-timers will encounter plenty of new challenges."
"I volunteer you to speak to EA’s studio heads; they’ll tell you the same thing. They’re very comfortable moving the discussion towards how we make connected gameplay – be it co-operative or multiplayer or online services – as opposed to fire-and-forget, packaged goods only, single-player, 25-hours-and you’re out. I think that model is finished. Online is where the innovation, and the action, is at." EA's Frank Gibeau to Develop. Thanks Ant via Slashdot.

The holiday season kicks in today for real for us as we'll be spending time with family to celebrate. I like this, because it will help to prevent that "is it over already?" sensation that sometimes strikes me after the season is over. Ho ho ho!
