MCV quotes Electronic Arts CFO Eric Brown at the UBS Annual Media and Communications Conference discussing what it will take for Star Wars: the Old Republic to be a success. Brown says BioWare's upcoming MMORPG will not require the kind of subscriber base of World of Warcraft to last a decade. "Our assumptions for break-even and profitability are not seven-digit subscribers. We think we can run and operate a very successful and profitable MMO at different levels," he told the assemblage. The Breach Interview on IncGamers talks with Peter Tamte of Atomic Games about Breach, their upcoming first-person shooter. Topics include the game's destructible environments and realistically modeled ballistics, game modes, their work on military training software, and more. They also get the current status of Six Days in Fallujah, their shooter shelved due to controversy over its setting. Tamte says he thinks this reflects on the state of the PC market: "It is frustrating because we are talking to a lot of publishers, as well as some prospective investors, but a lot of publishers are very stuck with not wanting to do things which are controversial. The frustrating thing for me about that is - ignoring the creative argument; the importance of the videogame medium becoming something than just about toys – focusing just on the economic argument, videogame retail sales in the United States have gone down two years in a row, I think in part due to the state of the economy, but a bigger part is that consumers don’t want to see the same kinds of games being cranked out over and over again."
