IGDA Perspectives Newsletter includes a "studio spotlight" on Gas Powered Games, where studio head Chris Taylor discusses his company. On the topic of
Kings and Castles, he explains how they plan on taking DLC to "a whole new level," saying: "Kings and Castles is an opportunity to explore a new business model … first we release the core game, and then each month, we release new content, or monarchs. It's taking the whole downloadable content model to a whole new level, but we might also bring some aspects of microtransactions to it as well." Thanks

The Elemental Forums have details on a version 1.1 patch for
Elemental: War of Magic to bring the strategy game to version 1.1. The patch is currently undergoing internal testing, and the plan is to release it on Thursday. The new version will introduce Global Mana and Population as a resource along with UI improvements, and more. They also promise balance changes, as outlined here: "But 1.1 also includes a rebalancing of all the stats, combat, equipment and creatures. The goal here is to visit all the core stats, baseline them and make sure the numbers are reasonable. Toby has been working on it and I don't envy him, its [sic] a herculian [sic] task and it won't be perfect right out of the gate but it will be a step in the right direction and we will be looking for opportunities to make it even better." Inspired by the November 13 reference, MrsBlue and I watched the first five episodes of the Odd Couple on DVD last night. 40 years later, the show is still hysterically funny, as well as surprisingly racy. A standout show from an era where a lot of productions would have spread all the jokes from two episodes of that show over an entire season to avoid building up too much audience expectation. "Chicken Delicious, will you?" Great stuff.
