The
Battlefield Heroes Website now offers a new
Battlefield Play4Free FAQ to fill in some of our knowledge gaps about EA's
just-announced free-to-play online military first-person shooter. There's also a new
trailer from the game which features commentary from EA's Bed Cousins along with some ShakyCam footage shot off a monitor (thanks
Ant via
Planet Battlefield). The FAQ offers a list of the features Battlefield Play4Free is taking from previous games, prompting them to refer to this as "the best of Battlefield." Here's that list:
- 32 players!
- New updated PC engine with HD console quality graphics – high resolution artwork and post-processing effects
- The weapons and equipment of Battlefield Bad Company 2
- The factions and classes of Battlefield Bad Company 2
- Maps are updates of classic BF2 maps like Strike at Karkand
- Vehicles are familiar BF2 classics (Yes, that includes helicopters and jets!)
- The leveling, abilities and deep visual and gameplay customization of Battlefield Heroes
- Free-to-play, quick to download and low system specs like Battlefield Heroes

GameSpot has the third-quarter financial results from NCsoft, where sales slipped about 6% compared with the same period last year. Word is: "Reporting on its July-September fiscal quarter this week, NCsoft said revenues came in at KRW155 billion ($139 million), down 6 percent from the same period a year ago. Likewise, profit was largely flat year-over-year, rising just 1 percent to KRW47.3 billion ($42.6 million). The publisher attributed its sales slip to a decrease in performance out of its Lineage franchise. The publisher also said that it had increased its payroll, having ramped up headcount in its R&D department."

Well, today is "fall back" day in these parts, as daylight saving time ended today at (the first) 2:00 am. It's always nice to steal some extra sleep on this day, which is the true longest day of the year at 25 hours, in spite of what people think is represented by the Northern/Summer Solstice. On the other hand, I will re-voice my annual complaint about standard time, as I'd prefer to stick to DST all year so the sun would still be out at 6:00 pm, as I find the earlier sunsets do nothing to ease the depressing aspects of the winter.
