The Star Wars: The Old Republic Website has a new trailer to highlight Warzones, a PvP element in BioWare's upcoming Star Wars MMORPG. The clip depicts the battle for Alderaan, the home planet of Princess Leia that eventually became a target drone for the Death Star. They also offer fans the chance to come up with a name for one of the Advanced Classes for the Jedi, as they equivocate about the name Jedi Wizard. They are conducting a poll to see if that name should be kept as it is, or changed to either Jedi Sage, Jedi Seer, or Jedi Adept. There's also a Star Wars: The Old Republic preview on GameSpot that looks at PvP as well as crafting in the game. Finally, there's a BioWare interview on Eurogamer.net where doctors Zeschuk and Muzyka discuss The Old Republic, as well as EA Louse and Mass Effect 3. One of Ray Muzyka's answers about The Old Republic's due date indicates the game's previously confirmed spring 2011 release window may be in jeopardy, as he now says of the game's release: "We're just saying 2011."
Metal Brigade Tactics is now available through a more mainstream digital distributor, as Impulse is now offering online sales of Busking Software's turn-based tactical strategy giant robot game "with deep RPG elements." Word is: "Control your squad of Vertical Armor giant robots on a mission to stop a small country from embroiling the world in a devastating war. Featuring a long campaign as well as a skirmish mode and built-in editor, Metal Brigade Tactics will satiate any strategy gamer's hunger." If you want to try before you buy, a playable demo was released last month.
The Ball Website now offers downloads of a standalone demo for The Ball to go along with the just-released Steam demo for Teotl Studios' first-person action/puzzler. The demo "will allow you to play through some of the levels from the main game itself, as well as play one of the Survival Mode maps." The demo is also mirrored on Gamer's Hell.
Codemasters Online general manager David Solari tells Eurogamer he thinks defunct online shooter APB: All Points Bulletin could be fixed, given the right amount of hard work. "I do think the game could be turned around but it would need nine months of hard work," he tells them. "That game could have been successful but the cost of development and everything else was a huge thing. The money it had to make to support that was very high risk. If you could take a smaller team and make all the fixes and operate at a lower cost then it's fairly unique: there's not really anything else in the market out there." The questions come in light of speculation that ABP was being picked up by Codemasters, which was already debunked by the original source. Nonetheless, they also reconfirm that Codies has not put out an APB for APB. "We have not picked up APB. I can answer you definitively," he said. "We haven't picked that up."
The Team Fortress 2 Blog announces plans for Team Fortress 2 scheduled maintenance on Tuesday, and while the teamplay shooter will still be playable while that's underway, certain features will be unavailable until it is complete. Here's word: This coming Tuesday November 9th, 2010 the TF2 item system will be down for maintenance starting at 1pm PST and ending at approximately 2:30PST. We are significantly increasing the amount of database horsepower behind TF2 to accommodate all the recent additions to the system. During this maintenance the following TF2 features will be unavailable:
> Backpacks
> Crafting
> Trading
> The MannCo store
> Loadouts
The game itself will continue to work. All players will have their default appearance and weapons.
To keep abreast of the status of this and future TF2 item maintenance, subscribe to this thread in the TF2 forum.
Note to developers using the TF2 Item Web API: As part of this maintenance all item IDs will change to eliminate negative IDs. We will be shifting all item IDs forward by 2100000. Depending on what data you store in your database, you may need to do the same.
A fourth Assassin's Creed Brotherhood video diary features the developers from Ubisoft Montreal once again donning their itchy monk robes to offer a melodramatic look at the upcoming stealth/action sequel. This time around they discuss multiplayer support, going into their whole assassin holodeck dealie, character customization options, and the challenges of taking on live opponents in what they are calling the "best Assassin's Creed." The embedded version follows. Continue here to read the full story.
The changing of the seasons has been particularly rough for Hudson the wonder dog, who suffers from the skin allergies that afflict so many terriers. She has started chewing at herself, and has removed quite a bit of hair, and given herself a nasty hotspot at the base of her tail. We'll probably take her into the Vet next week, but in the meantime in an effort towards minimizing the damage she does to herself, we have picked up some children's sized boxer shorts for her to wear to cover the hotspot and other itchy areas. The funny thing about that is that most men will tell you that the fly in their underwear is pretty useless, but it comes in pretty handy for a dog's tail as long as the shorts are put on backwards.
