BioWare Mythic now has events underway that will run all weekend to celebrate Halloween. The Warhammer Herald has details on the third annual Daemon Moon Rising Live Event in Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning, "which boasts eight tasks ranging from slaying 50 of the most fiendish daemons to completing the 'Daemonball Rally' Public Quest." The Ultima Online Herald has details on the Ancient Hellhound Encounter Live Event in UO offering the chance to be a werewolf. Finally, the Camelot Herald has the skinny on Dark Age of Camelot's Ghostly Harvest Quest, which "offers players level 45 and up a dangerous adventure in the frontiers. After speaking with John Tobin on the Cotswold Bridge, Foa Muldisson outside the Jordheim North Gates, or Nera by the road in Mag Mell the epic quest will begin."
The Left 4 Dead Blog outlines this week's new "Bleed Out Versus" mutation for Left 4 Dead 2 that's now available via Steam. Word is: "There is no permanent Survivor health, it is all temporary and it is ticking down. Even if you don’t normally play Versus, this is a great mutation to try. The action is frantic and fast as team wipes are always just a few seconds away."

The Star Wars: The Old Republic Website has new intel on the Imperial Agent class in BioWare's upcoming Star Wars MMORPG. The update discusses the advanced options for the class. Word is: "Specialize as a Sniper and leverage distance and concealment to get an edge on your enemies, or master stealth, surprise, and combat medicine to become a versatile and deadly Operative."

The World War II Online: Battleground Europe Website reflects upon the addition of Player Placed Objects in a recent version 1.32 patch for the World War II MMOG, discussing balance changes planned going forward. Here's word on what they've got going on: Battleground Europe game servers were brought down last week in order to release the newest 1.32 update. WWIIOL players will now have access to an exciting new feature: Player Built Objects. Created to give ground troops more variety in their game play, these new objects that can be built on the battlefield by players: The Infantry Fighting Position, the Gun Emplacement, and the Forward Resupply Unit. These objects give players new options in defensive and offensive combat. These objects, the first of many planned, will create new and exciting tactics on the battlefield, and pave the way for future potential objects such as minefields, pontoon bridges, flak mounts or landing strips.
The v1.32 update will also launch new pricing plans offering convenience and saving for players. With a new monthly plan as low as $12.99 per month, players can experience unlimited WWII era MMO combat on a large scale map of Europe. In addition, new players can now sign up for the all access Free Trial with no credit card required.
Steam now offers online sales of Bloody Good Time, commemorating the launch with a 10% sale through November 2. Bloody Good Time is a Source-engine multiplayer shooter from Outerlight ( The Ship) where players compete for a role in a slasher movie. Word is: "But seven other hopefuls are also in the running, so you’re going to need to prove your worth if you’re to hit the leading credits. You’re going to have to scratch, claw and strike to slash your way to the top. This job’s going to be murder!"

A new 'Halloween' Trailer from F.E.A.R. 3 offers a convergence of the frightening holiday with the upcoming frightening first-person shooter. In addition to eerie gameplay sequences, the clip also espouses family values. The Foundry for Star Trek Online (Beta) FAQ on the Star Trek Online Forums describes new tools, currently being beta tested, to allow Star Trek Online players to create custom missions in the sci-fi MMORPG. Word is these missions will be reviewed by the community to become part of the regular game. Word is: "The goal of this tool set is to allow players to put their stories in the Star Trek universe using the same look, feel, and capabilities that Cryptic's own design team utilizes. So while there are a lot of features for creating content, players cannot import their own images, 3D models, or audio into the game." Thanks Eurogamer.
Ryan Gordon's .plan may offer the final nail in the coffin for the .plan file as a way of conveying game news, as the Linux developer also known as icculus points the way to his Twitter feed for his updates. Other than icculus, the most recent developer .plan update we have is an update by id's Timothee Besset on Groundhog Day 2007.

Otherwise, post-release patching has become a crutch and a cheat, allowing publishers to purposely give the thumbs-up to blatantly faulty products for the sake of their schedule. Y'know, a few years ago, some European Union commissioners tried to enact legal protections for gamers buying faulty games...here's hoping that doesn't fade away. If we pay full price for a game, we have a right to expect full quality. No excuses.
