A recent interview on Gamasutra talks about EA's expansion of their Visceral Label to help cement the identity of the studio that was formerly part of EA Redwood Shores. Word is Visceral will work on new Command & Conquer game, a new installment in the real-time strategy series many presumed was on the shelf following a lackluster Command & Conquer 4: Tiberian Twilight. Their conversation with Visceral Games general manager Nick Earl does indicate the next C&C game is off in the future (or perhaps he mans "groovy"), saying: "In addition to the next Command & Conquer title, which is not yet formally announced and described by Earl as 'pretty far out,' he says 'the effort and energy at the moment is around building EA share in the action category... to achieve our mission of becoming number one inside of the action space'." Thanks Ant via GameSpot.

Some companies delay games with impunity, some hide from admitting delays, but the Magicka developer Arrowhead Game Studios and publisher Paradox Interactive embrace the situation with How The Gold Master Was Delayed- Part II (here's Part 1), from their upcoming Norse-themed action/adventure game. I took the doggies to the trail yesterday, and when we got out of the car I spotted a couple of deer across the parking lot, luckily catching sight of them before the pups did. I corralled them by their collars and cleverly attempted to scare the deer off by triggering the car horn with my key fob. Well, it would have been clever if they cared, but desensitized as they are to the ways of their human neighbors, they didn't even bat an eye. So I carefully ushered my crew to the trailhead and we proceeded without incident. When we returned, however, one of them was still lingering around, and while I didn't spot him, the Gunnar-man did, and gave chase, ignoring my telling him to stop (luckily I had Hudson the wonder dog on leash). He closed about three-quarters of the short gap between us as the deer watched calmly, with my fears steadily growing that the deer was choosing fight from the classic fight or flight menu. Just as I was convinced he was going to attempt to trample my poodle, his nerve gave out, and he took off, and after giving chase for a bit Gunnar returned. All in all, a pretty minor incident, but a reminder that I need to do more work on Gunnar's training to listen, as his ears seem to switch off as soon as his prey drive kicks in.
