Mytheon Delayed Again

The Mytheon Forums announce another delay to the online action/RPG, which is now expected in the first quarter of next year, this announcement coming just over a month after the game's previous delay. It seems the setback is due to the removal of Petroglyph as developer of the title, as word is: "We are proud to announce that Mytheon has fully transitioned into the hands of our Developers at UTV True Games. We know that progress on the game has slowed a great deal during this time, and we want to assure you that the completion of this phase allows us to focus fully on making the improvements that were suggested, requested and demanded by our players. To facilitate these changes we are announcing the end of Open Beta on Tuesday, August 31st. The server will be unavailable from that date until the majority of our improvements can be made." Thanks Big Download.

Valve Would Like to Make the Half-Life Movie

PC Gamer has quotes from an interview with Gabe Newell where the Valve managing director reveals his company's interest in being the creators of a Half-Life movie instead of letting Hollywood adapt their shooter. They also have another story from the conversation where Gabe explains they were considering a fairy-themed action game at one point before settling on Left 4 Dead as a project, somewhat mercilessly ripping into what a bad idea the dropped concept was. Here are Gabe's thoughts on the Half-Life movie:

Where we got into this direction was after Half-Life 1 had shipped. There was a whole bunch of meetings with people from Hollywood. Directors down there wanted to make a Half-Life movie and stuff, so they’d bring in a writer or some talent agency would bring in writers, and they would pitch us on their story. And their stories were just so bad. I mean, brutally, the worst. Not understanding what made the game a good game, or what made the property an interesting thing for people to be a fan of.

That’s when we started saying ‘Wow, the best thing we could ever do is to just not do this as a movie, or we’d have to make it ourselves.’ And I was like, ‘Make it ourselves? Well that’s impossible.’ But the Team Fortress 2 thing, the Meet The Team shorts, is us trying to explore that.

Left 4 Dead 2 Campaign

The Left 4 Dead Blog has word on a new community-created campaign for Left 4 Dead 2 called Detour Ahead. Here's the deal: "The new featured community campaign for PC players is Detour Ahead. This 5 map campaign offers Co-op and Versus gameplay. While the explosion in the finale will light the night sky, it's the train bridge you will remember." They have an explanation of the steps required to install and play the mod.

Stargate Games Lawsuit

Former shareholders in Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment have filed a conspiracy complaint against Dark Comet Games, Fresh Start Studios, and five individuals: Karl Hiatt and his wife (first name unknown), Mark Renberg, Chris Lombardo, and Harlan James Brown II, according to Courthouse News Service. The legal action is over Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment's bankruptcy, and claims that the transfer of assets from Stargate Resistance and Stargate Worlds was done without the approval of the bankruptcy court. The plaintiffs say "Fresh Start Studios allegedly paid $100,000 to purchase all of Cheyenne Mountain's assets, a fraction of 1 percent of the assets' worth," and that CME "raised and expended tens of millions of dollars in connection with the development of Stargate Resistance and Stargate Worlds." Word is: "Plaintiffs seek a declaration that the transfer of assets to Fresh Start is fraudulent, and want the assets returned Cheyenne Mountain Games. They also want $10 million in damages, alleging breach of contract, civil conspiracy, fraudulent transfer, tortious interference and unjust enrichment."

Dead State Announced

A Dead State Website is online, revealing that Dead State is the planned zombie RPG from DoubleBear Productions, the developer formed last year by Brian Mitsoda, formerly of Black Isle, Troika, and Obsidian. The game is in development for PCs, and here's a bit from their about page: "Dead State is a compelling, high-tension RPG set at the beginning of the zombie apocalypse - a deadly illness is rampaging through the world, turning those infected into the walking dead. As society is beginning to fall apart, the player must organize a scant handful of allies, working on fortifying a shelter, scouting for food and supplies, making uncertain alliances with others, and attempting to hold together a group as humanity teeters on the brink of extinction. And although the zombies lurk as an ever present threat, the biggest obstacle to the player may just be other humans with the same goal: survival at any cost." There's also a an interview on Rock Paper Shotgun where Brian discusses the project, which will not be released this year. Thanks joao.

Click here to analyse further information about Shapur and the volatile Sharig Plateau borderlands."
