The rumor-oriented "Spy" column in the latest print issue of PC Gamer has an unconfirmed report that Far Cry 3 is currently in development at Ubisoft Montreal under the leadership of Josh Mosqueira, formerly of Relic Entertainment. Thanks Big Download, where they reference previous rumors that a third installment in the shooter series will return to the African setting of Far Cry 2.

RTW Rehires Some Staff

Realtime Worlds has rehired 23 of the 60 staff laid off from their Dundee, Scotland-based studio that were working on Project MyWorld, reports Gamasutra. The staff were laid off in the days before the developer entered administration, and it sounds like they are bringing that project back to life: "As a smaller entity MyWorld is attracting considerable interest from potential buyers and 23 members of the team who had been working on the project clearly add value to it as a standalone business, hence the fact we have been able to offer a limited number of those jobs back," said Begbies Traynor joint administrator Ken Pattullo.

Dungeons & Dragons Online Patched

Update 6 is now live in Dungeons & Dragons Online, as is a bonus weekend in the free-to-play MMORPG, as word is: "Today through Sunday, August 29th, all players will receive a 10% bonus to XP in quests and a 30% bonus to Guild Renown! Click here for more information." These release notes describe the new version, which seems to be centered entirely around a new adventure pack which offers underwater action in a violent swamp called The Red Fens. They also have a new post offering Important Character Transfer Information.

Jagged Alliance 2: Reloaded Announced

bitComposer Games announces Jagged Alliance 2: Reloaded, a remake of Jagged Alliance 2 retaining its highly regarded turn-based strategy and role-playing gameplay, while updating the JA2 graphics to a more current state. They offer a set of three screenshots showing the game's old and new graphics side-by-side (they do not specify which is which, but if you can't tell the difference, you don't need a remake), and here's word on the game, which does not yet carry a release date:

Eschborn/Frankfurt, August XX, 2010: Jagged Alliance 2: Reloaded will be released next year, and this multi award-winning classic will appear as a totally revamped version. German publisher bitComposer Games is currently developing a remake of Jagged Alliance 2, which will retain the tried-and-trusted game principle, but will have a totally new game look and which will address the weak points of the original. Jagged Alliance 2: Reloaded will therefore have a contemporary 3D graphic style in an isometric view, the user interface will be totally redesigned and an extensive tutorial will ease the player into the complex game rules system. Find out more about Jagged Alliance 2: Reloaded and about other titles in the Jagged Alliance universe on the new product website:

Risen 2 Announced

World of Risen has the announcement of Risen 2, the sequel to the role-playing game created by Piranha Bytes after they left the Gothic series (thanks inCrysis). Apparently the Gamescom announcement said the game is coming for Windows and unspecified consoles, but here is the entirety of the news post:

During the press conference at the gamescom 2010 in Cologne, Germany, Deep Silver confirmed officially that Piranha Bytes and Deep Silver are currently working on "Risen 2". Daniel Oberlerchner, brand manager of Deep Silver, also reported this in our forum.

While this is no big surprise for most people, it should discard any speculations and rumours about other projects (i.e. Gothic 5) currently developed by Piranha Bytes. The next game will definitely be a successor to Risen.

Supreme Ruler 2020: Cold War Announced

Paradox Interactive continues their busy Gamescom with the announcement of Supreme Ruler 2020: Cold War, a new installment in the grand strategy series that's planned for release in Q2 of next year. Though it carries the 2020 name of the 2008 sequel to the once futuristic Supreme Ruler 2010, it sounds like this is a standalone game, rather than an expansion. Here's a bit on what to expect: "In Supreme Ruler 2020: Cold War, players will enter a portrayal of the world in the year 2020 based on recent real-world headlines. Battle economic challenges, unstable governments and worldwide tensions in this grand strategy experience."

Cities in Motion Announced

Paradox Interactive makes another Gamescom 2010 announcement revealing plans for Cities in Motion, which they describe as "the ultimate public transport simulator." The Cities In Motion Facebook Page is online with some screenshots from the game and the Gamescom trailer from the game is posted on the YouTube. The game's release is expected early next year, and here's a bit of what to expect: "Developed by Colossal Order Ltd, Cities in Motion sees players develop and operate their own public transport company building a travel network across Vienna, Helsinki, Berlin, and Amsterdam using more than 30 different modes of transport including buses, trams, subway trains and water buses. As each city develops and grows the player must continue to meet the ever changing transport needs of its commuters, while at the same time ensuring it remains as profitable as possible."

Call of Duty: Black Ops Mod Support Confirmed

The Call of Duty: Black Ops Forums have a confirmation from Treyarch that the upcoming installment in the military shooter series will have a dev console, also confirming that there will indeed be mod support after the release of Call of Duty: Black Ops, though the exact nature of this is still not clear (thanks joao). Here's word:

We plan to open the game up for modding sometime post-launch. We do not know yet to what extent you will be able to mod the game. There are some purely technical issues related to engine and internal tool enhancements that do not easily fit the modtools paradigm. We have looked at it close enough to see that it is non-trivial and we will have to pick it up again post-launch. Right now we are completely focused on finishing the game.

And, dev console: confirmed.

Crusader Kings II Announced

Paradox Interactive announces Crusader Kings II, saying the grand strategy sequel is currently in development, and expected for release in Q1 2012, even though the Crusader Kings Facebook Page is still about 20,000 fans short of the target to trigger the announcement. The Crusader Kings II Forums are online, and here's word:

In Crusader Kings 2, players will get to control one of the great Christian Dynasties of the West, attempt to conquer all of Europe and liberate the Holy Land.

“Crusader Kings character system is what made it stand apart from any other game released on the market. With this sequel, we are committed to offering even more depth to the characters, making them feel truly alive with agendas and plots of their own” said Johan Andersson, Head of Development at Paradox Interactive.

Paradox Connect Announced

Paradox Interactive announces Paradox Connect, the online service first mentioned about month ago by Paradox CEO Fredrik Wester that they say will create "a seamless experience between in-game play and between game sessions." The service will enter beta testing before the end of the year, and will begin by offering social networking integration and another place to earn achievements: "Paradox Connect will be effortlessly integrated within the central hub of the Paradox community – the forum. Players that already have a forum account will automatically be a part of Paradox Connect. Being connected to Paradox Connect means being able to take part in a host of new game experience enhancing features. Besides the forum, Paradox Connect will naturally be connected to other social media where the Paradox community can be found such as Facebook and Twitter." This thread is home to discussion of this news, though as of right now the thread hasn't been opened to the public as promised.
