The Champions Online Website has news that Bill Roper is leaving Cryptic Studios. id Interviews: RAGE DLC Planned

There's an Interview with id Software’s Todd Hollenshead on VG247 chatting with the id Software CEO at QuakeCon. They give him grief over last year's failed promise that DOOM 4 would be shown at this year's show, and ask him how things have changed since id was acquired by Zenimax, and we're choosing to believe his answer, even though he tellingly qualifies his answer with an "Honestly." They also quote Tim Willits on RAGE DLC plans: "We haven’t finalised any DLC plans, but we know it’s important," he told the assembled QuakeCon masses. "It’s been important to Bethesda. We’ll do it, we just don’t know what we’ll do yet." Finally, there's an interview with id Software's Steve Nix on Shacknews talking about the new subscription schemes for QUAKE LIVE.

StarCraft II Free Name Change Coming

The StarCraft II Website announces a premium name change service is coming to Blizzard's RTS sequel, which will be preceded by a free name change for everyone:

We wanted to let everyone know that in the near future we'll be allowing everyone a chance to change their chosen StarCraft II character name for free.

In some cases, people chose character names that don't represent their usual multiplayer nicknames, as they were unaware of how the character names were being used. It's important to us that everyone is represented by a name of their choosing in their multiplayer games, ladders, and on the forums and community site.

In addition, beyond this initial free name change, we’ll be launching a service similar to the one we offer for World of Warcraft which will allow additional character name changes for a fee. We'll announce more details on how the free name change and additional paid character name changes will be implemented in the near future.

BFG RMA Refusal

It sounds like BFG Technologies is in the process of going out of business, as Hardware Canucks has a copy of a letter denying a customer RMA support saying BFG "is winding down and liquidating its business," explaining that since the company had lost the support of its major supplier, "we are returning your graphics card without being able to repair it." The video also provides an insight into the broader driver’s experience at a GRAND PRIX, showing press interviews in the paddock, race engineers managing their drivers out on the circuit and motion-captured pit-lane crew returning their car into the action. On the track action shows daring passing manoeuvres and wheel-to-wheel racing as stars including Lewis Hamilton, Fernando Alonso and Sebastian Vettel compete to become FIA FORMULA ONE DRIVERS’ WORLD CHAMPION." Here's the embedded version. Continue here to read the full story.

Op Ed

World of Warcraft Strategies - "World of Starcraft" A remote possibility, or reality?
This stunning engine can be applied to future titles. Considering that Blizzard is in the process of making their new MMO, I would be willing to wager that this MMO is based in the Starcraft universe, despite previous announcements by Blizzard that the title was outside all of their current universes.

Hellmode - My Darker Competitive Side. Thanks Ant.
But from that point on, even after I shelved my top progression character, I couldn’t play the game like a normal person. Each top ranked kill had altered the game to an unplayable degree and there had been so many of them. I couldn’t wipe in a normal dungeon after being the first in the world to not only see Sapphiron, but to kill the encounter at level 60–it was too much of a regression. It was the difference between night and day. As I would discover, there was no going back to a casual player after being so hardcore.

Out of the Blue

We're looking forward to some summer television this evening with the return of Weeds and the debut of The Big C. I'm a little surprised myself at my interest in the latter, considering how close to home the cancer topic hits at the moment, but it looks like it has a different approach, and I'm curious to see how that plays out. The other TV experience we've been greatly enjoying is The Pillars of the Earth, the Starz miniseries based on Ken Follett's novel. The series and its themes are pretty epic, and it provides a great showcase for Ian McShane.
