Electronic Arts Forums have word that the long-awaited patch for the PC edition of Battlefield: Bad Company 2 has passed quality assurance and is being readied for release at 1:00 am EDT (7:00 am GMT+2) Wednesday and that the updated servers should go online at 5:00 am EDT (11:00 am GMT+2) Wednesday, for you early birds. Here's word from DICE's Mikael Kalms: "The client patch is approximately 890MB large. The list of changes is pretty much the same as is listed here. I'm going to write a post which explains some of the background behind the delays later tonight." Thanks Charles.
A Jane's Advanced Strike Fighters Website is online, with info and media about an upcoming modern combat flight simulator in the works at Trickstar Games, the developer recently formed from the remnants of Transmission Games ( Heroes of the Pacific, Heroes Over Europe). Word is the game will take place in a large-scale fictional battlefield, offer a diverse array of fighters, and 16-player multiplayer and a full co-op campaign for 2-4 players. The game is coming to PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3, and while they do not seem to offer a release date on the site, Big Download says the game is due this summer.
The 13th Annual Independent Games Festival is now accepting submissions for their 2011 awards, also announcing the addition of a new mobile category, and an expansion of their experimental focus. Word is: "All games selected as finalists will be available in playable form at the IGF Pavilion on the GDC show floor, and will compete for nearly $50,000 in prizes, including the Nuovo Award, Excellence in Design, Art, Best Student Game, the Audience Award and the $20,000 Seumas McNally Grand Prize. Winners will be announced on stage at the high-profile Independent Games Festival Awards on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at the Moscone Center in San Francisco."

USATODAY.com has word that the release date for Dead Rising 2 is now September 28, after the zombie action sequel was previously announced to have an August 31 North American release date (September 2 in Japan and September 3 in Europe, so we're guessing this means it's due on September 30 in Europe). No reason for the setback is offered, but as the old joke goes, it certainly wasn't to make the game worse.
StarCraft: IncGamers has a write-up of a Korean Blizzard Press Event held on June 24, where more details came to light about StarCraft II, Blizzard's upcoming real-time strategy sequel. One tidbit is an unconfirmed rumor that the game's closed beta test may resume within a few days. Another is a confirmed report on one of the alternate distribution methods for the game in Korea, where the game will be digitally distributed, as they say that World of Warcraft players with active payments in their WoW accounts will be able to play StarCraft II at no further cost.
A post on EventHubs.com highlights a few tweets from Super Street Fighter 4 series producer, Yoshinori Ono, who leaves open the possibility a PC edition of the enhanced version of the fighting game is still being considered, as they attempt to overcome the piracy that plagues the original, saying. "The PC version has some problems. In [Street Fighter 4], a large amount of illegal copy appeared on the market all over the world. Please Wait...," and "We are solving various problems now. Another round of closed beta testing is to get underway today for Need for Speed World, the MMO installment in the racing series. To pave the way, there are World Beta Release Notes and Known Issues on the Need for Speed Website outlining the new region, new cars, and other additions, as well as known issues in the beta. A new patch is now available for UFO: Alien Invasion, updating the freeware UFO strategy game to version 2.3. Word is: "The UFO:AI development team is proud to announce the release of UFO: Alien Invasion Version 2.3.
