Alpha Protocol DRM Details

The SEGA America Blog has details on how Digital Rights Management will work for the upcoming PC edition of Alpha Protocol, Obsidian Entertainment's espionage-themed action/RPG. The post includes a full FAQ on the topic of their DRM, and here's the summary:

The system chosen for Alpha Protocol is Uniloc: SoftAnchor. The system will allow the user to activate Alpha Protocol online immediately out of the box and once activated the user never needs to worry about activating again. The activation can be used on a limited amount of PCs, and can be deactivated through our online servers allowing the user full control over their license – should they need to re-install, swap machines or suffer a catastrophic hardware failure on their normal PC.

In the future, SEGA will be releasing an unprotected patch of the game to alleviate any fears of not being able to play the game when the Uniloc servers won’t be around anymore.

We also do not use Steamworks – the Steam released version will use Uniloc DRM.

Ships Ahoy - Airstrike Eagles of World War II

The Slitherine Website announces the release of Airstrike Eagles of World War II, described as "an exciting, arcade style, flight combat game set in World War II where Players take part in a series of campaigns, each simulating a different sector of the war." The game features three nonlinear campaigns, simple controls to allow you to fly with just a mouse and keyboard, five USAAF planes, and eight player multiplayer support over a LAN.

MechWarrior 4 Workarounds

The recent free release of MechWarrior 4 has gone about as smoothly as the run-up to the launch of the free version of the mech game, which is to say not particularly. The Mektek website is currently showing an Apache placeholder page (presumably recovering from demand-related overloads), and many users have reported problems attempting to obtain and install the game. A post on this site has instructions on how to try and get the game client as a straight torrent download, as well as a couple of tips on how to get it to run. It's not clear where things stand right now, but hopefully that can help some of the folks having problems with this.
