Slage Announced

Ankama announces Slage, an upcoming hack and slash action game for PC "that shines a whole new light on the world of DOFUS and Wakfu," explaining: "it’s cute, but brutal at times." This announcement is just preliminary, as they plan to more fully unveil the project at the fifth Ankama Convention, scheduled for April 17-18 in Paris, France. For now, here's how they describe the game: "Slage is a PC Hack'n'Slash. It combines the richness of the world of DOFUS and Wakfu, including its varied characters and cute, colourful style with a more adult dimension and more frantic, blood-tinged action."

Ubisoft: DRM Will "Evolve"

Eurogamer has a response from Ubisoft to questions about future plans for their online DRM, which they call their "online services platform," indicating they hope to improve the scheme, but not eliminate it, in spite of users' worst fears coming true about its online requirement causing all sorts of problems in the short time since it was implemented. "Most forthcoming Ubisoft PC titles will use our online services platform," a Ubisoft spokesperson explained. "As with any online technology, we are constantly working to evolve and improve it."

Saw II Announced

PlayStation LifeStyle has the announcement from Konami of plans for Saw II, a second game tie-in with the horror/torture movie series. Word is the game will be released for PCs and consoles this fall, featuring a story set between the second and third movies where the player plays the son of Detective Tapp. There's a (suitably gruesome) teaser trailer for the game on Vimeo, which does not include the PC logo.

F.E.A.R. 3 Trailer

Here's the F.E.A.R. 3 trailer that goes along with the announcement of the horror-themed shooter sequel. The clip features live-action footage to instill us with the fear of the outcome of Alma's pregnancy, as well as the fear that they will actually use F.3.A.R. as the title. The clip also includes very brief snippets of gameplay, and concludes with the tag line: "Blood Runs Deep, F.E.A.R. Runs Deeper," referencing another horror shooter franchise (Blood) created by Monolith, who developed the first two F.E.A.R. games, but are not involved in this new one. The embedded trailer follows. Continue here to read the full story.

NS2 Engine Test

The Natural Selection 2 Website announces the Natural Selection 2 "Engine Test" is now available for those who have preordered the upcoming strategy/shooter sequel. Word is: "This is the first version of the game and game engine where you can run around on a couple small maps and fire the rifle at animated dummy targets. It isn't supposed to represent gameplay for NS2 (or really, any gameplay at all!) but serves to help us test our technology to make sure we get it running smoothly on a wide variety of computers."

The Old Republic Voss Preview

The Star Wars: The Old Republic Website has another planet profile from the upcoming Star Wars MMORPG, introducing the planet of Voss, surely a favorite of director Rainer Werner Fassbinder. The profile includes this video and their media section has some Voss screenshots.

Crysis 2 Interviews

There's a video interview on GameTrailers.com talking with someone they identify as "Cervat Yerl" who bears a striking resemblance to Crytek CEO Cevat Yerli. They discuss what's being shown off of Crysis 2 in the new trailer for the upcoming shooter sequel and other aspects of their plans for the game. There's also an interview with Yerli on Gamasutra, who explains to them why he feels there is still an audience for the high-end graphics in their games in the face of increased growth of flash-type gaming. Thanks Joker961.

On Indie Sales

My XBLIG game sales numbers is a post by indie XNA game developer Elbert Perez about his experiences developing XBLIG games. He offers sales figures for his three previously released titles, and discusses the elements he feels contributed to the sales ups-and-downs for each.

Op Ed

IndustryGamers - OnLive is 'Doomed,' says Alex St. John.
Take the much anticipated launch of OnLive for example. It’s a great sounding idea – streaming games that require no installation, can be played anywhere, and are stored in the cloud with support for spectating! Sounds great; it’s too bad that it’s doomed. Is anybody out there aware that Valve is doing a 9-figure downloadable gaming business for premium titles already? Although Valve is so wildly profitable that they have little need to hype the company to investors, I suspect that Gabe Newell is smiling to himself and thinking the same thing I am. This is going to be a fun show. Does anybody remember how many failed companies there are who have had the same idea and perfectly workable technology solutions for delivering premium games over the Internet?
