Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment announces F.E.A.R. 3, saying the next installment in the horror-themed shooter series originated by Monolith is due on PC and Xbox 360 this autumn. Monolith is not involved this time around, as the game is in the hands of Day 1 Studios, who collaborated with Monolith on the F.E.A.R. console ports. They announce the game will stress co-operative multiplayer play, and that it is featuring contributions of a pair of Hollywood horror experts, director John Carpenter ( Halloween) who provided expertise for in-game cinematics and writer Steve Niles ( 30 Days of Night), who co-wrote the game script with the development team and John Carpenter.
Activision announces the Stimulus Package DLC for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be released for the PC worldwide on Tuesday, May 4. They also offer release details on the PS3 edition of the pack, which is due on in North America on May 4 and in the European Union and Australia on May 5.
Steam News announces the promised free weekend for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 is now underway: Available immediately, gamers around the world can play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 multiplayer free of charge during a special Free Weekend promotion on Steam. There's a Blacklight: Tango Down Interview on Destructoid where lead designer and project lead Jared Gerritzen answers questions about Zombie's upcoming shooter. Topics include the sci-fi feel of the not sci-fi game, the game's story, their multiplayer experience system, factions, the Battlefield/Call of Duty divide, their plan to use digital distribution, and word that the game will not support dedicated servers: "I know where this is going. No, we are keeping the interface unified with the consoles. However, to the PC guys, this is not a console-to-PC port. We’ve taken some major steps to make sure the PC experience is just as good -- if not better -- with a smoking PC." Thanks Joker961.
Alwar Entertainment now offers Hamlet, an old-school adventure game based on the old-school play by Willie Shakespeare. Steam has news that The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom will be released for Windows PCs through Steam in April 20. Word is: "Set in a world made famous by keystone cops, theater organs and pie-in-the-face slapstick, the inventive game has been heralded as a "big contender for DLC game of the year" by 1UP.com, who gave the game a perfect 100/100 score." They also outline advantages of the PC edition: "Created by The Odd Gentlemen, The Misadventures of P.B. Winterbottom was originally released for Xbox LIVE® Arcade for the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. The Windows PC version is being developed by 2K China. The game will be available exclusively on Steam and comes with many new appetizing ingredients, including expanded leaderboard options, new unlockable Steam achievements, five additional brain-teasing puzzles and Steam Cloud, which allows players to take the game with them on the road by accessing saved games from the Steam network."
The Warhammer Online: Age of Reckoning Forums recaps a billing problem that has caused subscribers to Mythic's MMORPG to be repeatedly incorrectly billed. The post outlines measures being taken to remedy the problem. Paradox Interactive announces that Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West is now available on Steam (it currently lists preorders, but this follows a countdown to its unlocking, so presumably it is indeed available for purchase), offering a third-person shooter set in the game's titular wild west. Word: "Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West delivers gritty battles in a beautifully rendered classic Western setting. Featuring the unique synergy system, power-ups are provided to encourage co-operation and promote team tactics to achieve optimal gameplay. Developed by Fatshark, Lead and Gold: Gangs of the Wild West offers the chance to relive the violent era of the Wild West with adrenaline-fueled action and fast-paced gunfights."
Ignition Entertainment reveals details on "The Order," one of the factions from Blacklight Tango Down, their upcoming first-person shooter. Accompanied by some new screenshots, they offer details on this "elite and secretive military organization whose publicized purpose is to protect the civilian population of Balik, although their efforts are not solely limited to that area."
Steam News announces the release of some free DLC for Just Cause 2, the sandbox action sequel from Avalanche Studios. Shades of Twisted Metal, the game now has its own heavily armored ice cream truck: "The game now includes a free 'Chevalier Ice Breaker,' featuring a sturdy front ram, side skirts and greater top speed. With this ice cream truck, you have the perfect tool for causing some serious fender-benders. Better yet, it also includes a jingle to match."
Steam News is now accepting promised pre-purchases of Serious Sam HD: The Second Encounter, which carries a 10% discount between now and the release of this remake of Croteam's first-person shooter. They also reveal the other bonus they hinted about, saying those who pre-purchase will be able to play The Second Encounter in both coop and multiplayer modes as Ugh-Zan, the boss from The First Encounter. Also, Seriously! points the way to Majesco Entertainment's announcement they will be publishing the Xbox LIVE Arcade edition of the game.
TaleWorlds now offers the manual edition of the version 1.105 patch for Mount & Blade: Warband that was released yesterday on Steam. The patch is accompanied by a new dedicated server, and as always, the client serves as a playable demo for the action/RPG sequel. A playable demo for The Whispered World is now available, offering a sample of this point-and-click adventure game from Daedalic Entertainment that was originally planned for release in 2008. The demo is about 600 MB, and it can be found on AtomicGamer, FileFront, Strategy Informer, and WorthPlaying. There's also a new "Making Of" Trailer for the game that offers developer commentary on developing the project: The commentary is German, but there are subtitles for those of us who do not sprechen Sie Deutsches. Blizzard announces the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty Collector's Edition, an enhanced version of the upcoming real-time strategy sequel. This announcement reveals the pricing structure for the standard edition as well as the CE, saying the game will be $59.99 USD, while the CE will be $99.99. The Collector's Edition will include a 176 page art-book, a behind-the-scenes DVD, a soundtrack CD, a StarCraft comic book prequel issue #0, a World of Warcraft mini Thor in-game pet, and exclusive Battle.net downloadable content. "We've been looking forward to revisiting the StarCraft universe with our players for over 10 years, and we wanted to offer an epic collector's edition that commemorated the occasion," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment. "This special version of StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty -- easily our biggest collector's edition to date -- does just that, and we think StarCraft II gamers will really enjoy all of the exclusive contents." MCV has details on recently revealed plans for a new PC and Mac game based on the Doctor Who television series. Word is this game is being developed by Sumo Digital and Revolution Software's Charles Cecil to come in four episodes to be distributed digitally, and because of the BBC's role as a public servant, the game will be free. Word is: "The Adventure Games will be released partly in tandem with the show and are billed as being an 'extra four episodes' for the 13 show run which started last week."
PopCap Games announces the release of Bejeweled Blitz, calling this "the 1-minute social adaptation of its mega-hit franchise Bejeweled for the Facebook platform, is now available as a downloadable game for Windows-based PCs." Word is: "Bejeweled Blitz PC offers a range of enhancements to, and advantages over, the free Facebook game, including full-screen play, dramatically enhanced sound and graphics, dozens of new achievements and corresponding badges, and 1 million coins redeemable for 'Blitz Boosts' — power-ups and other score-stimulating effects."
The Battle.net Forums have details on the new eighth patch for the StarCraft II beta, updating the test of the RTS sequel to version 0.10.0.14803. The update is mostly balance tweaks. Thanks Ant via Voodoo Extreme.
Turbine announces the launch of the fourth major update for Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited, their free-to-play MMORPG. Word is: "DDO Unlimited’s newest update adds a brand new adventure pack – Sentinels – as well as dozens of new items to the DDO Store. Update 4 arrives as Turbine officially introduces the DDO Player Feed, a new Facebook application that is the latest in Turbine’s line of social features that extend player’s [sic] experiences to the world’s largest social network."
