The EVE Insider
announces plans for the
Tyrannis expansion for
EVE Online, CCP's
sci-fi MMORPG, saying: "The exact release date will be announced later, but
let‘s say that it will happen before the summer solstice." The goal of the
ambitious new add-on is to give players control of building their own planetary
infrastructure, saying: "In our upcoming expansion, Tyrannis, ALL THESE WORLDS
ARE YOURS" (not even holding back on Europa like Bowman did). The update
explains more fully what all this means, and clarifies that combat on planets
will be added in the future, as this expansion will concentrate on exploration
and industry.
A new
Amnesia: The Dark Descent
Website teases plans for the next game from Penumbra developer Frictional
Games, offering a teaser trailer for this survival/horror game in the works for
Windows, Mac, and Linux. More details are in
this announcement,
where they announce an unusual preorder scheme: "The web site also features
something of a first in the history of computer games - the 'pre-order-o-meter'.
Watch as blood fill up for every new pre-order placed! If we reach 2000
pre-orders before end of May, new content will be added to the game."
Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy
protection in the latest twist in the ongoing saga surrounding development of
Stargate Worlds, the planned MMORPG based on the Stargate property. This comes in spite of
the
recent release of
Stargate
Resistance, a third-person shooter it was hoped would infuse the company
with enough cash to properly complete the project. This is according to
Massively, where they have word that this chapter in the story goes deeper
than that, saying: "Now, news has come to light that not only has Cheyenne Mountain Entertainment
filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy protection, but they've also
severed
all ties with Gary Whiting -- former Chairman and CEO of CME. Add to that,
the shareholders and Cheyenne Mountain have joined forces against Whiting in
civil
case (CV2010-003106) filed in Maricopa County, naming many other ventures
including the
curious
'interactive social network,' MMOGuls Inc. as co-defendants, in a civil
complaint 'alleging various wrong doing against the Company'."
There's an
Official FireSky Statement from the game's development team on the forums
discussing the situation, saying: "That said, our entire staff is in-house
working on upgrades and expansions for Stargate Resistance, and we continue to
be motivated and excited by the response we’ve received from our customers." The
full statement follows.

More details about Ubisoft's controversial online DRM scheme are available on
Ars
Technica, where they spoke with Ubi about how DRM in the
Settlers 7
will operate, learning that details on the system may vary from game-to-game,
and that Internet interruptions in the upcoming strategy sequel will not cause
players to lose any progress, unlike what we
recently learned about Assassin's Creed
II, and that momentary connection glitches will simply pause the game. A
more complete quote on the topic follows.

BioWare "could" be revealing new DLC for BioWare's RPG sequel
Mass Effect 2

GameZone, which
they attribute to "an inside source." That's all there is for now. We told you
it was vague.
Hollywood is eyeing Atari's
Missile Command as a potential movie
franchise, reports the
Los Angeles Times, saying: "The company is in active discussions with
studios to acquire the title for development, with Fox and Peter Chernin's new
production company the likely venue at which the property will end up." Missile
Command seems perfect for Hollywood, where creating a film based on a property
with no characters and no discernable plot makes perfect sense. Thanks
Kotaku.
It seems the fates were feeling sympathetic towards my disrupted Friday, as
things were pretty quiet yesterday in a general sense. I will continue to be a
bit out of sync for the rest of the weekend, but have every expectation of being
back on track by Monday.
R.I.P.:
