Third Call of Duty Team and MMO Rumors

An article on latimes.com about the blockbuster launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 concludes with word that a third team is now making Call of Duty games and another mention of possible MMO plans for the military shooter series:

As Activision seems to be discovering this year with Guitar Hero, there's danger when a title is overexposed with too many iterations. Nonetheless, the publisher has aggressive expansion plans for Call of Duty. Although Infinity Ward and Treyarch have produced sequels in alternating years since 2005, the publisher now has a third development studio working on future versions.

One person close to the company said it also was considering adapting Call of Duty as a massively multi-player online world. The genre, in which Activision's Blizzard Entertainment subsidiary is a leader, requires huge upfront investments but can be very profitable as players pay a monthly subscription fee.

The InLaws Revealed

The InLaws Website outlines plans for The InLaws, an episodic adventure game in the works at GolemLabs (thanks The Patches Scrolls). The first episode tells the tale of an "incident" that occurred in 1985. Vinny is organizing a family BBQ for his son Nolan’s birthday. He plans on cooking chicken for the whole family to enjoy, but as usual, Ed is determined to ruin the day by any means available.

When you have the perfect guests, the perfect occasion, a gas BBQ, clowns and a bear, really what can go wrong?

Find out in the first episode of The InLaws - coming Q4 2009 to your favorite online store.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif. -- November 18, 2009 -- Telltale Games and LucasArts today are reporting the purported demise of Guybrush Threepwood, one of gaming's greatest heroes and the Caribbean's mightiest pirates.

Details are sketchy and authorities have not named any suspects, but unconfirmed reports suggest that the recently reformed pirate LeChuck may somehow be involved. Investigators have not been able to locate the former demon pirate, or Threepwood's wife Elaine Marley-Threepwood, for questioning.

As the chronicler of Threepwood's recent exploits in Tales of Monkey Island, Telltale Games assures the masses that answers to many vexing questions will be revealed in the grand finale episode, Rise of the Pirate God, which releases on Tuesday, December 8 at http://www.telltalegames.com/monkeyisland.

The State of Stardock/Impulse

The 2009 Stardock Customer Report is a 28 page Adobe Acrobat-format document penned by Stardock's Brad Wardell, who explains that while as a privately held organization they do not publicly release financial results, they have thrived on being transparent to their customers, and thus lay out future plans for Impulse, PC games, and consumer software along with the results of their 2009 customer survey. The article discusses why they've dropped their "one world, one price" requirement since it resulted in many titles being offered solely in North America, the challenges of Steamworks' DRM, getting content onto Impulse more quickly, improving the user experience, and more. They also mention Blue's News among the gaming sites carrying reports of online sales, which he says "have resulted in an unprecedented reduction in price for PC gamers." Their games Demigod, Sins of a Solar Empire, and Elemental are all discussed along the way, as is the Gamers' Bill Of Rights.

The Witcher 2 Trailer [Updated]

There's a new ShakyCam trailer from The Witcher 2 from a CD Projekt presentation of the action/RPG sequel. It seems safe to presume the movie was surreptitiously shot based on the 40% angle the clip is skewed ("I am big, it's the bootlegs that got small"). There's probably something to be learned from listening to the presentation as well, but that would require understanding Polish. Thanks Eurogamer. Update: We're told by reader Dots that the language is actually Russian, and he believes it says the game is due within a year.

"They were looking for a rough, Scottish actor in Hollywood they probably couldn't get Gerard Butler, so they got the No. 2 Gerard Butler, me. I had no idea it would be so huge, and now there are talks of a feature film," he revealed to PopWrap. Then came the kicker, when asked if he would be bringing Soap to life in the movie, he said, "if the script is good, and Gerard isn't available [laughs], then absolutely."
