On PlanetSide Next

What Planetside Next means to me on Smed's Blog discusses recent indications that a PlanetSide sequel is in the works (thanks PlanetSide Universe). In the update Jon Smedley explains his love for the original game, and how he envisions its follow-up. Here's the conclusion:

To me, Planetside Next means we get a chance to take the essence of everything that was fun in Planetside and make it a lot better. Massive battles on a scale no other FPS will touch. None of this 64 player stuff. REALLY MASSIVE. With much better organization, and a tight focus on making sure the action is always going on, with awesome graphics.

Damn I love Planetside. I really do.

Fallen Earth Status Report

The State of the Game on Fallen Earth Forums discusses how things are going in the post-apocalyptic MMORPG after one month of operation. They outline various issues on which they'd like more feedback, and describe plans for the upcoming version 1.1.0 patch as well as the version 1.2.0 patch that will follow. In conclusion, they say: "We are incredibly pleased with how our first month has gone. We’ve overcome a number of hurdles and seen a great response from the community. You make our game great. Keep evangelizing Fallen Earth and letting the world know about your new home. Bang down the doors of retailers and let them know they need Fallen Earth on their shelves. You are the lifeblood of this company and we need you to help spread the word. Thank you for making Fallen Earth great!"

Out of the Blue

I noted a couple of anniversaries here yesterday, but failed to note that yesterday marked 15 years since the release of DOOM II on October 10, 1994. It'll probably never happen, but I'd love to see DOOM LIVE in the vein of QUAKE LIVE, with online leaderboards and such, as I still miss DOOM II multiplayer in a big way.
