Archived News:
SEGA has finally acknowledged the delay to Alpha Protocol that was
uncovered last week after the release date for the spy-themed
RPG shifted on several websites. Their hand was forced today when the game's
planned release date rolled around, and their
Alpha Protocol product
section started showing the game as "out now." The site has been changed,
and now reads Spring 2010 for all platforms. Thanks
Joystiq.

Codemasters announces
Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is now shipping to North American
stores, with the open world military shooter due in PAL territories Thursday
and the UK on Friday. Here are
some screenshots, there's a cinematic launch trailer on the
YouTube, and here's a
bit: Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising is modern combat in stunning
detail. The game authentically recreates conflict in a 360-degree theatre of
war, which enables players to approach objectives from any direction. On this
realistic battlefield, where one bullet can kill, players face the fear and
mortality felt by soldiers as they are challenged to survive the rapidly
evolving situations of battle throughout the game's single and 4-player co-op
campaign.
Whether assaulting, flanking or suppressing the enemy, or calling on fire
support to rain down from the skies, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising demands
players think on their feet, reacting quickly to any situation the game's
advanced AI throws at them. In this theatre, every decision counts, every action
has a consequence and every bullet can kill.
The Defense of the
Ancients Blog has an update from IceFrog, developer on this influential
Warcraft III modification, saying he has joined Valve to lead a development team
(thanks Ant via
SK Gaming). Word is: I have some really awesome news I'd like to
share with you guys. I am now leading a team at Valve! I finally have all the
resources needed to do some very exciting stuff that you guys will love. I look
forward to revealing more specific details when the time is right.
My goal and top priority in the future is to solve the surrounding issues that
affect the DotA experience in order to allow it to reach new heights. Addressing
these issues will enable us to further enjoy aspects of DotA such as the
gameplay, mechanics, and in-game feel that currently work well and ought to be
maintained. As I've said many times in the past and especially after today's
developments, I am very excited about DotA's future!
Electronic Arts has filed two trademark registrations for "The Ripper" (here's
one
and
the other). This is noted on
superannuation, where they also note an
LA Times blog post from a while back with more on this, as it says:
"Although [the EA spokeswoman] declined to elaborate, two sources close to EA
told The Times that Visceral’s next game would be Jack the Ripper, based on the
19th century British serial killer. It’s not clear what the game would involve,
but it’s a natural follow-up of sorts to Dante’s Inferno, which is also based on
copyright-free historical material."
superannuation
also notes
Remedy's new trademark registration for Death Rally, pointing out that it is
for "computer game software, and any printed instructions or printed hint
manuals sold therewith as a unit," suggesting a digital release, and that
Jordan
Mechner has filed a trademark registration for Prince of Persia: The
Forgotten Sands.
A new
Activision trademark filing by Activision for Call of Duty reserves
the title of the military shooter series for "Pre-recorded movies featuring
comedy, drama, action, adventure, music, theatrical performances and/or
animation," suggesting Call of Duty films may be on the way. Thanks

Gamigo announces the launch of an English-language edition of
Slapshot, their subscription-free (and
Hansons-free) MMO ice/roller hockey game in a patch that also upgrades the
game's graphics. Here's a bit: "The game play is action-packed, the community is
supportive but competitive – Slapshot has something for everyone. Players start
the game with a choice of 3 character classes – wing, defender or centre. From
then on, it' [sic] up to the player; they can customise their look, train up their
skills or just leap into the ice-cold action."
DTP
Entertainment announces that the English voice recording sessions for Gray
Matter are complete, and that this adventure game from renowned designer Jane
Jensen is on track for its worldwide release in March 2010. They say: "Jane
Jensen herself supervised all of the English voice recordings, which were
directed by Lorelei King, one of the most successful and accomplished American
actresses working in the UK today." They also announce some of the participants:
"For example, Sam Everett, the game’s female main character, is performed by
actress Philippa Alexander. Dr. David Styles, the game’s main male character is
played by Steven Pacey, known from British movies and TV such as 'Heartbeat',
'M.I.T' and 'Pie in the Sky'. Furthermore, the cast also includes well known
British actors and voice actors like Adrienne Poster, Rupert Degas and Sacha
Dahwan."

Our village is in the middle of a massive reconstruction of the train station
parking lot, as parts of it used to flood badly when it rained. This is a huge
project that has been underway since the middle of the summer, but I am
beginning to fear that they started too late, as they don't seem to be anywhere
near the repaving phase of this operation, and I'm worried they won't get to
that before winter sets in. I certainly hope I'm wrong, as the normal couple of
minutes it used to take picking up and dropping off MrsBlue at the station has
become a stop and start round trip over huge gravel beds that can take as long
as 15 minutes at this point, and I can't even imagine what kind of mess that
will be if it snows, since they won't be able to plow. I think we need to hire
an experienced SimCity player to manage this project.
