Steam News has an update
about the free DLC for Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War II for which new details
surfaced yesterday. In addition to what we already know, they say
the DLC will include two new multiplayer maps and bug fixes and that the release
is expected in October.
Gamasutra
reports EA, Activision, THQ, and Blizzard have struck deals with Massive, Inc.,
the Microsoft-owned company that serves ads within games. Word is Battle.net
will exclusively feature Massive's ads, but the only PC game specifically
mentioned to include these ads is Need for Speed SHIFT. The new ads will begin
appearing in October.
Questions raised regarding Update 1.50 on the Electronic Arts UK Community
answers some burning questions about the overdue version 1.50 patch for
Battlefield 2, which is now
expected Tuesday (thanks
Ant and
Planet
Battlefield). For example, they explain the patching process: "A full
installer wasn't made to get Battlefield 2 v1.0 up to v1.50 due to a change in
how updates were made between DICE Canada and DICE Sweden. We could have made
one large update but it would have been almost the same size as the game install
itself. To solve compatibility issues it was decided to have players update to
version 1.41 (or have Battlefield 2 Complete Collection installed from EADM)
before running Update v1.50."
The RAGE interview on IGN traps John "Carmak" Carmack into a dark
closet at QuakeCon until he comes forth with details about
RAGE, id Software's upcoming driving and shooting game. He discusses the way the new IP
came to be out of what had been the
cancelled Darkness project,
how this new IP represents a bit of a risk but that it gives their team
something different to work on, how much they had to learn to create a driving
game, that the game's driving is still more like "QUAKE in cars than a Forza
simulator," and how looking over the next five years after RAGE is complete they
will probably continue to work on their established IPs, his wish that he could
prototype their big AAA cross-platform games on the iPhone, plans for a
"high-end from-scratch" RAGE game on the iPhone, and more.
The
Guild Wars 2 Video interview on GameTrailers.com talks with ArenaNet
designer Jeff Grubb and art director Daniel Dociu about the art and story in the
upcoming Guild Wars sequel. The clip includes snippets of gameplay footage to
illustrate the descriptions of how the world has changed in the sequel's setting
200 years after the first game.
Capcom Producer Masachika Kawata about Resident Evil 5 on PC Games
Hardware is an interview with the producer on the latest installment in the
Resident Evil survival/horror series, which is due on PCs in a couple of weeks.
Here's a bit on how much better the game will be on PCs than consoles: "That
would be to fully utilise the hardware advantage. In terms of graphics, the
console version was already ‘over-specced' so even by using the same resources
the high resolution environment of PC will draw out the full potential of what
we have created. Due to various limitations we had to maintain the frame rate of
the console version at 30fps so the PC version will feel a lot smoother in
comparison."
Our now-beloved running tally of this week's bargains:
Another new automatic update is now available for Valve's
Steam client.
Word is the new version
fixes "retail installers not properly installing."
License to surf in Australia? Will it come with a "00" number?
The rains have forestalled completion of our chimney repair, so I have defied
the wishes of the workmen and taken the caution tape off the back door to give
the doggies access to the backyard again. I first made sure it would be safe out
there for them, which it obviously is at this point. This is good news for
Hudson the wonder dog, who was starting to act positively neurotic over not
being able to patrol her territory, and she is much happier now that she's been
able to reassure herself that all is as she left it.
