A post to the
Electronic Arts UK Community Forums has an update on the version 1.50 patch
for
Battlefield 2, which is still in testing in spite of being
first announced well over a year ago (thanks
Ant and
Planet
Battlefield). The post explains a couple of minor issues that have surfaced
since
the third beta patch, and says that if nothing else crops
up, an official release is near: "When I get back into the office next week
there will be some last minute checks (no more fixes (unless something is broken
that I didn't expect) or changes) and all being well the update 1.50 will be
finalised and released officially." The post also gives an indication of why
this has taken so long, saying: "Thanks for your feedback during the Beta
phases. Its [sic] all gone a long way to make this one of the biggest changelogs that
Battlefield 2 has had since launch."
Some more sales in addition to
those mentioned last night. The
Brothers in Arms Bundle is also 60% off on
Direct2Drive, while individual games in the series are each half-off. They
are also offering a 50% discount on
Cogs,
instant beta access for those who preorder
Aion
and $5.00 off preorders of
Aaaaa!
Direct2Drive also now offers an assortment of LucasArts PC games. Finally,
there are also two sales underway on
GOG.com, the home of older games revised to be DRM-free and compatible with
modern Windows systems. This weekend they are offering
a bundle of The Nations
and Alien Nations for $8.98 and
a bundle of Ghost Recon
and Rainbow Six for $9.99 or $6.99 individually.
Steam News has word that
the patch and map pack
released yesterday for
Call of Duty: World at War
is now also automatically available for the
Steam edition of Treyarch's World
War II shooter.
A new behind-the-scenes trailer from
Wolfenstein is now available,
showing off more of Raven's upcoming first-person shooter. The clip includes
gameplay footage and conversation with the game's developers discussing the
original game and how the seminal shooter evolved to what they are working on
today (we're taking that a bit on faith, as we couldn't seem to get sound working
on any of the clips we viewed). The clip concludes reconfirming the game's
recently announced delay to August 18. The download is
available from
AtomicGamer,
FileFront, and
Gamer's
Hell.
A new
DiRT 2 Utah Trailblazer Trailer is online (they should have set this one
in Portland), showing off more of the upcoming racing game sequel under
construction at Codemasters. The clip shows a BMW in the deserts of Utah,
following a trail, if not exactly blazing one.
The Tech Report - A
plea for Lara Croft.
I feel like these recent Tomb Raider games have been at least a little
unfairly dismissed. It's my understanding that Eidos wasn't happy with how
Underworld sold, which is a shame, because it's still a fine game.
Underworld doesn't quite have that same revitalized sense as Legend did, but
it's a more than acceptable sophomore effort. Care was clearly taken in
trying to capitalize on and improve the things that worked the first time
around.
