Reflecting on the Future of Mirror's Edge

EA confirms ‘small team’ working on Mirror's Edge 2 (thanks MCV) is a post from way back at E3 based on a comment by Patrick Soderlund that does not actually mention Mirror's Edge 2 at all. Here's what the senior vice president at EA Games Europe has to say about the future of DICE's acrobatic action franchise: "You will see another Mirror’s Edge for sure. It’s just a matter of when that time is and what we do with it. We have a small team on it and I’m excited about what we do."

Shattered Horizon Beta Nears

They ask that you sign up using the same PC as you would be using to play. Thanks YouGamers.

Demigod Patch & Demo Plans

Demigod nears its second month is an update from Stardock's Brad "Frogboy" Wardell describing how the new network connectivity system operates for Demigod, and how this has helped clear up the game's launch woes. He concludes by saying they are evaluating a version 1.1 patch for release as well as a demo based on the new version:

Version 1.1

I have in my hands a release candidate from Gas Powered Games for v1.1.

Here are a few things we are looking for in v1.1

        • Team concede. If it looks like you’re going to lose, your team and vote to concede and end the game so you can go to the next.
        • Speed debuffs have a minimum move speed now.
        • Better chat handling for better visibility
        • When you sell a minion idol, existing units are destroyed.
        • Updated computer AI
        • Random Demigod option
        • Bunch of other tweaks, fixes, enhancements.
        • High on our list is the handling of replays.

The demo version of Demigod is also in our hands based on this same code. So over the next few days we’ll be going over this.

Free Realms at 3 Million

Sony Online Entertainment says over three million Free Realms accounts have been created in the seven weeks since the subscription-free MMORPG went live, reports GamesIndustry.biz. This is no accident according to the quote they provide from SOE president John Smedley: "SOE worked diligently over the past four years to ensure that Free Realms would take the online space by storm."

Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood Movie

A new "brothers" movie for Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood is now available taken from the upcoming prequel to Call of Juarez, Techland's wild west shooter. Word is: "As the McCall brothers, players enter a doomed quest for the legendary Gold of Juarez leading them from a ravaged Georgia during the Civil War to the Aztec ruins of Mexico. They make their lawless trail into the wildest West ever depicted, using their gunslinging skills and killing all of those that stand before them. But when the brothers face lust, their bond of blood feels thinner than ever." The clip is posted on AtomicGamer and Gamer's Hell.

Trembling Hand - What EVE Can Teach Us About the Global Financial Crisis.
Another lesson to learn from EVE is the importance of trust. Within EVE you must build your trust with other pilots over a long period of time. However this trust is easy to break and is in fact consistently broken. This means that those who are able to maintain trust acquire the most valuable asset of all. Although EVE might be a harsher world when it comes to fraud and trust than real life the lesson which can be drawn from EVE is that without trust there will be no rebuilding of the world’s economies.

Out of the Blue

Well, we managed to go a day without having the birdfeeder knocked over, but I do have to admit still being surprised by just how much food a squirrel can take from a feeder: the guy who is hitting it hardest is starting to look more than a little plump. The neat thing is the way it has attracted more birds into the yard, which already enjoyed a thriving bird society. Our nesting pair of mourning doves (maybe they followed up from Brooklyn?) has been in more evidence, and just this morning I saw an oriole up close for the first time, as he was sitting right outside my window.
