The
3D Realms
Website has a Goodbye image from the developer saying so long to their fans
since the studio
is closing. The photo depicts the 3D Realms
staff, including Kaiser the dog, and is captioned: "Thanks for being fans and
for all your support." Thanks
Shacknews.
The
Dawn of War II Website
has further installments in "The Road to Patch 1.3," an epic serialized saga
detailing plans for the upcoming version 1.3 patch for Relic's RTS sequel. In
Part Three there is a
discussion of plans to improve Skirmish AI,
Part Four has
screenshots and some details about new weapons and items added by the patch, and
in
Part Five they
outline how squad decorators are redesigned in the new version.
Two new
Battlestations Pacific movies are online, presenting more from
the upcoming World War II action/strategy sequel. There's a clip called Road to
Hawaii showing Japanese forces devastating American defensive positions along
the Hawaiian coastline, including a kamikaze attack. This clip is posted on
AtomicGamer and
Gamer's Hell. There's
also another new clip demonstrating Island Capture, a gameplay mode available in
single-player and skirmish games on
Gamer's Hell. Meanwhile,
there's a
Battlestations: Pacific Preview on Strategy Informer detailing strategies
with info supplied by two of the game's designers that's accompanied by a
an advanced tactical features trailer. Battlestations Pacific is due for
release in North America on Tuesday and in Europe and Australia on Friday.
Massively - How exactly do you review an MMO?
So how do you review an MMO? Well, in some respects, in the same way as
any game. You look at the gameplay, graphics, learning curve, storyline and
all that jazz. However, there will always been comparisons with bigger
games. Be they better or worse, each genre has its benchmark. So our
reviewer plays, possibly scribbling some notes longhand or taking into a
dictaphone as they go. The problem with game reviewing is that you cannot
enjoy the game. I know some journalists who advocate playing a game twice,
once for fun and a second time with a critic's eye. Yet again we fall back
to the time factor and the lack of a conclusion. MMOs are by their very
natural continuous and changing with no real ending.
Gameplayer
- Why Exclusives are Feeding the Hate.
For the PlayStation faithful to get so passionate about the matter, it
implies that perhaps Sony has not done enough for them during this
generation. Obviously it is an issue that Microsoft has been securing
exclusives throughout this generation and Sony has not, or else why would
people care? Clearly Sony needs to make its fans feel like they’re getting
more for their console investment than they currently are. The way that Sony
went about Ghostbusters was underhanded and ill-timed, but looking forward,
securing some sort of third-party exclusives may be the tonic that their
hardcore fans need right now.
Okay, time to work on convincing MrsBlue to see Star Trek. Wish me luck!
