A new "Obsidian Evolves" Alpha Protocol video diary offers more on
Obsidian Entertainment's upcoming espionage-themed RPG. The clip features
commentary from senior producer Ryan Rucinski, executive producer Chris Parker,
and creative director Chris Avellone, along with a bunch of gameplay footage.
They discuss the evolution of the role-playing genre and their role in that
progression over the years, and how they are trying to apply all their
experience to create a realistic action-oriented RPG. The clip is posted on
YouTube (thanks
Gamesonice) as well as
ActionTrip and
AtomicGamer.
A new movie from PROTOTYPE has gameplay with a developer voice-over to set the story for Radical Entertainment's upcoming open-world action
game. They describe the game's underling conspiracy, characters in the story
(including New York City, which they consider a character of sorts), and
gameplay where the player is the "ultimate badass." You can find this clip on
AtomicGamer and
MyGameTrailers.
A new King's Bounty: Armored Princess movie offers a look at the settings
and gameplay in the upcoming expansion for King's Bounty: The Legend 1C
Company's adventure/RPG. The clip is posted on
AtomicGamer and
Gamesonice, while
Gamesonice (or rather
YouTube) also offers a "Drako" video with some cuteness from the game.
Registration for PAX
East has quietly gotten underway, offering the early chance to sign-up for
the upcoming east-coast version of Penny Arcade's popular gaming consumer &
trade extravaganza. The east and early parts of this are serious, as the event
is in Boston, well over 100 miles east of the east-coast BlueTower, and it will
take place from March 26 through March 28, 2010, so there's a timer
counting down to the show that currently reads 356 days, some odd hours. Thanks
Kotaku.

Nextgame.it is an Italian
gaming site, where they have posted a video interview with Martyn Brown of Team17 that they conducted at the Game Developer's Conference. They have subtitled
the interview in their native Italian, but the English audio remains, so you
should head over and check it out if you want to learn about topics like
Alien Breed, their upcoming game, as well as how DLC is helping studios like
theirs learn more about self-publishing. On a note related to Team17 and
publishing,
Mobile Entertainment (thanks
Edge)
reports having seen indications that EA will be picking up rights to distribute
mobile versions of Team17's Worms series.

All-Gamers interviewed Beyond Good & Evil creator Michel Ancel, and
translations of the conversation have inspired a couple of articles about the
upcoming action/adventure sequel.
Eurogamer has a translated excerpt on how the sequel will achieve the
cinematic ambitions they had for the first game, which were dragged down by the
"next generations" systems (consoles) of the time: "For [BG&E], we wanted to
create a more cinematographic game, but we didn't have the technical ability to
do that. So we simplified. It was fun, because I remember we had to create a
work for Sony to demonstrate how original our game was in order to get the dev
kit. We wrote BG&E like we were in a film. After, we understood it would be very
tricky to reach that immersion on that console! But now, with the next-gen
consoles, we feel it is possible to develop the game we thought of for the
first."
Eurogamer also has word that the original game was partly inspired by the
attacks on September 11, 2001, offering this translation: "There were a lot of
inspirations: the Miyazaki universe, my own inspirations, politics and the
media; the theme of September 11 - the CNN show with army messages and the fear
climate. And it was a mix from other universes."
The weekend special on

of the games, you can grab the other title with a $1.00 discount." Also,
GOG.com has a surprise
addition of Far Cry to this online DRM-free game distributor, offering

GamersGate offering Frontlines Fuel of War for 50% off at $14.99.

Champions Online interview on ComputerGames.ro talks with Bill Roper about
Cryptic Studios' upcoming superhero MMORPG. He discusses the Champions property,
retaining players, Cryptic's leg up on the superhero genre after City of
Heroes/Villains, instanced content, appealing to both casual and hardcore
players, character progression, and more.
The
Nolan Bushnell Interview on Kikizo talks with the Atari founder about his
recollections of the dawning days of video gaming, all the way through his
current work with both uWink and NeoEdge.
Don't know if anyone else was watching Life on Mars, but I thought it wrapped up
in a pretty cool way. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't have liked the resolution as
much if the show had gone on for years, so maybe it all was for the best. The
show also ended an odd week of
Dean Winters sightings, as he played little Sam's dad in the Life on Mars
finale after popping up again the week before on both 30 Rock and The Sarah
Conner Chronicles.
