Shrapnel
Games is now making with online sales of
Brainpipe: A Plunge to
Unhumanity, the latest offbeat offering from indie developer Digital Eel (
Dr.
Blob's Organism,
Strange Adventure in Infinite Space), described as
an arcade-style "endurance run" game of eye-hand coordination and quick
reflexes. Featuring one-hand controls, the game offers: "hypnotic 3D graphics,
ear tickling sound effects and immersive dreamscape music, its free floating
forward moving intensity gradually increases from serene to frenetic as you
play." A playable demo is available and a Mac version is in the works.
A German demo for
Memento Mori is now available, sampling the art-theft
mystery game developed by Centauri Productions that's now available in Germany.
The demo is an 836 MB download, available on
AtomicGamer,
FanGaming,
FileFront, and
Gamer's
Hell. About the only German word we know is schadenfreude, which means we are
taking joy at the prospect of someone trying to play this who does not sprechen
Sie Deutsches.
Though not publicized,
Steam
is running a sale on Project Aftermath for this independently developed RTS
game, as the game is listed at $9.99, about a 50% discount. Games Faction's PAX
10 finalist is also available for that price on
Impulse, and if you are on the
fence, there's a
playable demo for your sampling pleasure.
Steam now offers a new patch that's automatically available for
Tank Universal, adding
enhanced keymapping and a couple of bug fixes to this Tron-style combat game.
Steam also now offers
their version of the patch for
X3: Terran Conflict, offering the same
changes and fixes as the manual patch
released yesterday.
Red 5's
Stealthy Plans, Upcoming MMO on Gamasutra is a Q&A with a couple of the
ex-Blizzard execs at
Red 5 Studios who have recently changed jobs; former
CEO Mark Kern, who is now Red 5's Board chairman and chief creative officer and
new CEO Michael Weingartner, who was previously the company's Engineering VP.
They discuss the reasons for this executive shuffle, and probe for details about
what Red 5 is up to, mostly running into a wall of secrecy, possibly part of an
effort by the startup to avoid flagshipping themselves. They do talk in general
terms about their plans and goals, and indicate they may be de-cloaking soon to
make an official announcement.
Happy Christmas Eve! This should be a quiet occasion around the BlueTower, as we
have no particular plans for the day, and have taken care of all our last minute
shopping. Our big score of the season was for the Smurfs, as our godkids are
getting their first video game system this year; a Wii, and I managed to track
down a Wii edition of the Rock Band 2 Special Edition in spite of its scarcity.
It will be hard to be bigger heroes than their dad for getting the Wii in the
first place, but we expect this will get a pretty good reaction.
