Atari's Neverwinter Nights 2: Storm of Zehir Product Section indicates this
add-on for the D&D RPG sequel is now available. They offer the DVD by mail as
well as digital delivery, and digital distribution is also available via
Direct2Drive. Word is: "Neverwinter Nights™ 2: Storm of Zehir hearkens back
to the days of the Baldur’s Gate and Icewind Dale franchises by including full
party customization, dungeon crawling, and free exploration of a non-linear game
world via Overland Map."
Shacknews has word on
a number of layoffs at Gearbox Software, saying as many as 25 or 26 employees
have been let go at the Dallas, TX-based developer, with poor performance of
Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway listed as one of the reasons, for the
layoffs. The report also originally indicated that this also involved the
cancellation of
Aliens: Colonial Marines, but subsequent updates from
Gearbox say the game has not been cancelled, as Gearbox president Randy
Pitchford is quoted saying that the game has "Aliens isn't canned," and that
saying development has "halted" is an "inaccurate characterization." The longer
quote sounds a little like
Freddy Riedenschneider:
"We've made some transformative changes and yes, that's meant some talent
changes, but that's not the real story. The true relevance of the story will
actually be irrelevant until we release our next game, at which time I hope
there will be a lot of interest in what we've done that can produce such
results."
Gametrailers now
offers the first trailer from
Batman: Arkham Asylum, the upcoming
superhero game. The clip does not include any action, offering only a glimpse of
one character through some blurry glass, but it offers an in-game look at the
grim environment of the asylum.
Gametrailers has the
debut trailer for
Wanted: Weapons of Fate, GRIN's upcoming action game
based on the summer action move that looked a lot like a video game. The NSFW
clip sets the story for the game and shows off its depiction of some of the
movie's spectacular bullet-curving action sequences.
A new version 1.51 of
Battlegroup42

Battlefield 1942 is now available to address a few unspecified bugs
that found their way into the
recent version 1.50 of this
modification aimed at imbuing the World War II shooter with greater historical
accuracy. Thanks Mike Martinez and

Battlefield.
GameZone chats with
Prince of Persia Producer Ben Mattes is an interview about the now-gold
platformer, learning among other things, their rationale for rebooting the
franchise: "Because it was time. If we had continued to use the same gameplay
mechanics or the same core story, the uniqueness would’ve died out. There are
car racing video games out there with the rewind mechanic in them now. There are
certain mechanics that were perhaps initially very unique and distinct about
Prince of Persia that have lost some of their “tangy lemon flavor” because a lot
of other people have adopted those mechanics. We had other stories to tell and
other mechanics that we wanted to explore and other avenues and directions to
push the game. So, I think it was exactly the right time to introduce some new
characters, some new mechanics and some new life into the franchise and the
universe of Prince of Persia."
Lazed around a bit today to mark my birthday, and thanks for all the well
wishing, by the way. We'll continue this evening as MrsBlue takes me out to
dinner. We're going to a local spot that we've never been to, which is perched
on a spot above the Hudson River that we've always presumed will offer
spectacular scenery, but we have no idea what to expect from the food.
