"It is with a heavy heart that I announce the end to all work on 'Tiberium,' effective immediately," is a quote from EA's Mike Verdu, who goes on to offer the general reasoning: "The game had fundamental design challenges from the start." Word is the cancellation of the game, which had about a year to go before release following a recently announced delay (story), will cost some developers their jobs, though how many are not specified.

Eidos Interactive announces Shellshock 2: Blood Trails, a first-person shooter set in the Vietnam War planned for release this holiday season for Windows, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3. Eidos says this is "different to any first person shooter you’ve seen before; at times it feels more like you’re in a horror movie than a game." Indeed, the game's description is more of a survival/horror game than a military-themed shooter: "At the height of the Vietnam War, a covert ops cargo plane carrying a top-secret consignment known only as ‘Whiteknight’ is lost over the deepest, uncharted jungles. Special Ops soldiers are immediately dispatched to the scene to retrieve the top secret shipment and one-by-one they disappear without a trace… until one month later, one of them suddenly walks out of the jungle." CoH Issue 13, To Be Continued

NCsoft announces a shift in plans for Issue 13 of City of Heroes/Villains, their two-headed super-powered MMORPG. Issue 13 was originally to include the mission architect feature that would allow for user-created missions, but they have decided that character creation, originally considered a "stretch" feature for the architect, is actually more of a necessity than a stretch. As a result they are pushing the architect into Issue 14 so character creation can be implemented and to allow Issue 13 to be released this fall. This page has details on Issue 13, which is now titled "Power and Responsibility" (hopefully they paid royalties to Uncle Ben's estate), while this page has preliminary details on Issue 14, titled "Architect."

Out of the Blue

Yesterday I was startled when the BlueTower began shaking to its foundation to the beat of a pounding coming from out front. The guys working on our walk inexplicably dumped some concrete in our walkway unrelated to paving it last week, which needed to be dug out before they could do their real work. I was expecting them to do this yesterday, but what I didn't expect was that they would use a backhoe as a sledgehammer to break through the sheet of cement. And I thought the jackhammers were bad! Apparently they were done with the house-shaking part of the job just as I got out to discuss this with them, so I wasted a perfectly good tantrum. Oh well, it's good to keep in practice.
