Kotaku reports plans for another Call of Duty game in 2009 beyond Treyarch's
upcoming
Call of Duty: World At War, which is due later this year. This
is based on a revelation during a conference call following Activision
Blizzard's latest financial report where CEO Bobby Kotick said the sixth CoD
game would be released in 2009 because they will "leapfrog" studios, which
suggests that CoD4 developer Infinity Ward will be handling this title. Kotaku
mentions a rumor that IW is working on a science-fiction shooter, and speculate
whether CoD 6 will be fought with ray guns, though it was also recently reported
the developer is cultivating an entirely new intellectual property
(
story).
GamerChip reports that retailers have told them a modified version of
Fallout 3 has been cleared for sale in Australia (thanks
MCV), after depictions of drug use caused the Australian OFLC to refuse the
sale of the uncut version down under (
story). They don't seem
convinced enough to take this out of the rumor category, but apparently more
than one shop has told them they are now taking preorders for a version of the
game that has had all references to drug use stripped out.
PC Games has screenshots of
Testament of Faith, an upcoming project
from City Interactive that's due on October 31 of this year according to the
release schedule on MCV. A
translation of a German article on
GamesWelt shows this to be a point-and-click adventure starring a French
archaeology student
named Sylvie Leroux, described as a female version Indiana Jones. Settings of
the game will include Istanbul, Malta, and Rome.

Blizzplanet has a
quadruple-feature of gameplay movies taken from the closed beta test for
World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King, the MMORPG expansion
theoretically expected by
the end of this year. Three of the clips show boss battles, which the fourth
shows off a chest with loot.
A new version 1.1 of the
Science and Industry 2
teamplay modification for
Half-Life 2 is now in the tubes (thanks
Ant
and
Planet
Half-Life). The update is primarily aimed at addressing bugs, and word is
they've also changed the source of their Source: "Additionally, we have moved
Science and Industry 2 to the Orange Box Engine, meaning you need to have the
Source SDK Base - Orange Box installed to play, and you no longer need to own
Half-Life 2: Deathmatch, either. We are also providing an installer version in
addition to the zipped version for easy installation. "
Version 1 of the
Perfect Stride Continuum modification for
Half-Life 2 is now
available (thanks
Ant and
Planet
Half-Life). This is an first-person platformer with 8-bit style graphics and
quite unusual gameplay mechanics involving the conservation of momentum as
you maneuver around the maps.
We had severe thunderstorms today, and tornado warnings and the such dire enough
that for a while we though we would have to cancel our trip to our niece's
birthday party. Fortunately things cleared up considerably after a while, and we
were able to head up and spend the afternoon with the family. A lovely Hannah
Montana-themed time was had by all.
