Dragon Age by End of March '09

GameSpot digs another tidbit out of EA's latest earnings announcement, pointing out that a release of Dragon Age is predicted for EA's coming fiscal year, meaning BioWare's fantasy RPG is expected sometime between the beginning of April 2008 and the end of March 2009. They also highlight a comment by EA CEO John Riccitello, who told analysts "another game based on Peter Jackson's interpretation of J.R.R. Tolkien's fantasy world is en route" set for release sometime in EA's 2009 fiscal year.

Hellgate London Multiplayer Patch

The Hellgate London Website announces the live servers for Flagship's action/RPG have been updated with a new version 1.1 multiplayer patch. The Patch Notes outline all the changes in the update, many of which were inspired by user feedback.

Call of Duty 4 Linux Server

Icculus.org offers downloads of a new patch to update the Linux server for Infinity Ward's military shooter sequel to correspond with today's new version 1.5. The patch can also be used with the retail data files to create a new penguin-powered server.

Savage 2 Postmortem

RPG Vault's Savage 2 Wrap Report is a postmortem by S2 Games about Savage 2: A Tortured Soul, their recently released strategy/shooter hybrid. LucasArts Prez Quitting

LucasArts President Has Quit on Kotaku has word that Jim Ward, president of LucasArts, has quit the post he's held since 2004 "for personal reasons." No specifics were provided for the resignation, which takes effect in a couple of weeks. Thanks nin.

Call of Duty 4 Patch

Though not yet noted on the Call of Duty Website, a new patch is now available to modernize Call of Duty 4: Modern Combat to version 1.5. The new version addresses some bugs, offers server browser improvements, and improves mod support. The 70.6 MB download is available on ComputerGames.ro, FileShack, Gamer's Hell, and GameSpot (registration required). There is also a new patch for the mod tools, allowing them to work with languages other than English. This 12.6 MB download is available on ComputerGames.ro, FileShack, and Gamer's Hell.

Pacific Storm: Allies UK Patch

A new patch is online for the UK edition of Pacific Storm: Allies to update the action/strategy game to version 1.4. The 10.6 MB patch is available on FileFront, Gamer's Hell, and The Patches Scrolls.

Microsoft's Yahoo Bid

Microsoft Offers to Buy Yahoo reports in brief that Microsoft has put in an offer to acquire Yahoo in a deal valued at $44.6 billion in cash and stock. This News.com article offers more detail on the bid, which has not been rejected outright by Yahoo, though the search giant characterizes the offer as "unsolicited." Word is:
Microsoft's offer, which was contained in the letter to Yahoo's board, amounts to $31 a share and represents a 62 percent premium over Yahoo's closing price on Thursday. Microsoft said it will offer shareholders the option of cash or stock.

"We have great respect for Yahoo, and together, we can offer an increasingly exciting set of solutions for consumers, publishers, and advertisers while becoming better positioned to compete in the online-services market," Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer said in a statement.

Yahoo said in a responding statement that its board "will evaluate this proposal carefully and promptly, in the context of Yahoo's strategic plans, and pursue the best course of action to maximize long-term value for shareholders."

CABAL Online US Beta

OGPlanet has word that the promised (story) open beta is underway for the US edition of CABAL Online. They also unveil a few events planned for the beta, where they will reward players who level up quickly (as in 50 levels in two days) and the top three guilds, as well as some random awards.

Empires in Arms Patch

Matrix Games News announces the first patch is available for Empires in Arms to update the turn-based grand strategy game to version 1.01. Word is: "Specifically, the update improves the AI’s DoW (declaration of war) strategy, adds several enhancements to the user interface like a news event banner at the beginning of the reinforce phase, and several updates and clarifications to the in-game manual." The 5.9 MB patch is located on this Downloads Page.

New Evochron Renegades

A new version 1.288 of Evochron Renegades is now available, updating this space combat game. As always, the new version acts as a trial that can be updated to the full game as well as a patch to update previous versions. A corresponding updated version of the server is also available.

Battlefront is running a sale on DropTeam, knocking $15.00 off the cross-platform tactics game. Likewise, Matrix Games is taking 35% off the price of Maximum Football 2.0 Championship Blitz during the month of February. Not to be outdone, Shrapnel Games unveils their Gaming Relief Act Of 2008, offering a number of their games at discounted prices over the next two weeks. Speaking of sales, inCrysis has word from an EA conference call that Crysis has sold over one million units to date. A full transcript of the EA conference call can be found here.

New Lineage II Programs

NCsoft celebrates the retail release of Lineage II: The Chaotic Throne – The Kamael with a new Refer-A-Friend Program and new account services offering fee-based character name and even gender changes. You can only change names every six months, so you will have to time your bad behavior carefully, but gender changes can be done on a weekly basis, so there is much more freedom to go all Victor/Victoria if that floats your boat.
