Kane & Lynch Gold; To Ship Early

The Interactive brothers, Eidos and IO, announce Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is gold, and the offbeat buddy action game will have the unusual distinction of an early release on November 13:

REDWOOD CITY, CA (Oct. 31, 2007) – Eidos Interactive, one of the world’s leading publishers and developers of entertainment software, today announced Kane & Lynch: Dead Men has achieved gold status. The company also revealed an all-new ship date of November 13th, shortening the time until release of Kane & Lynch: Dead Men to stores nationwide by a full week. Available for the Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system, PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system, and PC Games for Windows platforms, including PC digital distribution. The game will also be released on mobile handsets. Kane & Lynch: Dead Men comes from the award winning team at IO Interactive responsible for the critically acclaimed Hitman series.

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is a cinematic crime drama that tells a raw and gritty tale of two anti-heroes – one a flawed mercenary, the other a medicated psychopath – set in an intense third-person action shooter. Forced to embark on a violent and chaotic journey, hating each other every step of the way, Kane & Lynch: Dead Men features a gripping storyline, relentless third-person action and an innovative twist on the online multiplayer gameplay experience.

“We’re excited to ship Kane & Lynch: Dead Men earlier than expected and get a jump on the holiday season," said Robert Lindsey, Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Eidos Inc. "Kane & Lynch will offer something entirely fresh and unique in terms of narrative depth and character, but also as a next-generation action title.”

In the two-player Co-op mode, one player assumes the role of the ruthlessly efficient Kane, while the other controls the unpredictable and blackout-prone psychopath Lynch. The action continues online in the innovative and distinctly volatile “Fragile Alliance” multiplayer mode. Supporting up to eight players online, the multiplayer begins with all players on the same team fending off police and pulling off a high stakes heist. But the criminal coalition lasts only as long as it needs to, as players can shatter the alliance at any moment by becoming a traitor and turning on their cohorts to try and make off with the cash.

Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is developed by IO Interactive and will be available for the Xbox 360, PLAYSTATION 3 system, and PC Games for Windows, including PC digital distribution. The game will also be released on mobile handsets. Kane & Lynch: Dead Men is rated Rated 'M' for Mature by the ESRB.

Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific - U-Boat Missions

Ubisoft announces U-Boat Missions, an add-on for Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific, the submarine combat sim:

SAN FRANCISCO – October 31, 2007 – Today Ubisoft, one of the world's largest video game publishers, announced that Silent Hunter®: Wolves of the Pacific U-Boat Missions, an add-on to the critically acclaimed Silent Hunter®: Wolves of the Pacific submarine simulation, will be available for PC in spring 2008. Developed by Ubisoft Romania, the add-on will allow players to prowl the Indian Ocean as the captain of a German submarine.

Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific U-Boat Missions extends the gameplay experience of Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific by focusing on the historically accurate but largely unknown German U-boat campaign in the Indian Ocean during World War II. U-Boat Missions offers players a variety of new features and content including an entirely fresh and innovative strategic element, new playable submarines, an improved navigation map, improved upgrade system, and more. Silent Hunter: Wolves of the Pacific U-Boat Missions is an essential addition for any simulation fan.

Key Features:

•     German Campaign in the Indian Ocean: The new campaign spans from July 1943 until end of war, in May 1945. Players will operate from such far-off Japanese naval bases as Penang, Singapore, Jakarta and Surabaya.
•     Strategic Warfare: As the player rises in rank and experience he gains access to new strategic resources, such as recon aircraft that track down enemy shipping and even battle groups that can help wipe out superior enemy forces.
•     New Playable Submarines: Take to the seas in the long-range Type IX-D2 U-boat and the revolutionary Walther propulsion type XVIII U-boat. Learn the strengths and weaknesses of these boats and how you can overcome even elite, late-war allied destroyers with high-speed hit-and-run attacks.
•     Heroes: Based on actual historical figures, these new crewmembers add a number of special abilities that can change the fate of battle and save the ship when the time is right, as well as adding historical color to the game.

Out of the Blue

Happy Halloween! As always we are looking forward to this evening's influx of trick-or-treaters, as this area is just nutty for this holiday. I've seen an unusual number of news pieces this year on dogs in costumes, as it seems to be an ever more popular sentiment that this is some form of animal cruelty. We are undeterred, however, as we remain convinced our pooches are fine with getting dressed up, and they always delight the children with their get-ups. This year the plan is to have Hudson the wonder dog be Wonder Woman while the Gunnar-man will play Zorro, though we may improvise on this, since Gunnar's all-black costume doesn't show up very well on his all-black coat.
