Microsoft announces plans for a November update for Games for Windows LIVE that
will bring the online service to version 1.2:
The Games for Windows –
LIVE v1.2 update will continue to add numerous end-user benefits to the service,
such as support for offline Achievements, so gamers can continue to rack up
Gamerscore when not connected to the internet, the ability to see whether your
friends are “joinable” in games, along with additional UI features.
Microsoft is rolling out two Games for Windows – LIVE updates in a matter of
only four months, but we’re just getting started! Our goal is to deliver new and
exciting experiences for Windows gamers, while maintaining the unique PC gaming
environment we love. We’ve come a long way since announcing the vision of LIVE
across multiple Microsoft platforms last year and are committed to continually
refining and bringing future functionality to Games for Windows – LIVE.

Got Game Entertainment announces November 1 is the release date for The Lost
Crown: A Ghost-hunting Adventure, Darkling Room's supernatural adventure game
that was originally announced with a Spring 2006 release date (

A new patch for the Macintosh edition of Civilization IV is now available to
update the Different Think edition of the strategy sequel to version 1.74. The
patch is available on
Macgamefiles,
though as of this writing they have a typo in their own link to the file, which
is actually
located here (direct link).
The
Classic Doom for Doom 3 Website now
offers a new version 1.3.1 of this modification that uses DOOM 3 to recreate the
old school experience of DOOM. This new "final" edition of the mod is to address
compatibility issues with the most recent DOOM 3 patch. Thanks

As promised on the
Massive
Entertainment Website and

the first patch for World of Conflict is now available. Word is: "This update
introduces several new features that allow players to customize their profiles,
and it improves the DX10 performance on all graphic cards. The update also
includes many smaller fixes, tweaks and balancing improvements. The update will
be automatically downloaded when the user logs on to Massgate." Manual editions
of the various language version 001 patches can be found on the

Today is Columbus Day here in the U.S., which is theoretically a holiday, though
I don't know many folks who have ever gotten this as a day off, so it's not
clear if it will have the same dampening impact on game news as more widely
celebrated holidays. I'm guessing it won't, but I was also surprised to see the
number of empty parking spaces in the lot when I dropped MrsBlue at the train
this morning, so who knows?
