The Evochron
Renegades Website is live, revealing plans for a new installment in the
Evochron series of space combat games from StarWraith (thanks
Gamer's Hell). Here's word from the
FAQ:
- Evochron Renegades is the sequel to Evochron Alliance with a lot of
design aspects heavily influenced by player feedback and requests. It is a first
person 3D space combat, trader, and mercenary simulation. You can make diverse
buying, fighting, and travelling decisions in a large universe without the
hesitation of turn-based gameplay or the reduced immersion of an
overhead/outside view. You are literally in the action with a consistent first
person viewpoint and make all gameplay decisions directly from the cockpit.
The main goal of the game's design is to provide the only freeform space-sim
that lets you buy, trade, negotiate, bribe, spy, race, transport, mine, explore,
recruit, design your ship, and protect in an open, seamless universe (without
loading screens or sudden environment flipping) also without system 'walls' or
required jump/warp gates. Freedom, interaction, and gameplay choices are the
priorities of the game's design. Fly where you want, when you want, and complete
a wide variety of activities to advance in the game and make your fortune.
Evochron Renegades offers many unique space combat and trading elements,
including a real-time dynamic changing economy, seamless environment
transitions, multi-level threat system, commodity/item trading, ship-to-ship
trading in all gameplay modes, planetary descents, diverse control support
(Mouse, Keyboard, AND Joystick control options), unrestricted open space jump
drive travel and navigation system, realistic Newtonian physics, fuel resource
management, per ship bribing, realistic revolving inventory availability,
in-cockpit inventory and trade management, gravity effects, AI based trade
negotiating, and more.

New Korean developer Reloaded Studios announces they've licensed Crytek's
CryENGINE 2 to power an upcoming action/Strategy MMORPG. Korean MMORPG developer
XLGames made a similar announcement a few weeks ago ( story), so
as Yogi Berra once put it, it's like deja vu all over again: Frankfurt,
Germany / Seoul, Korea, September 15 – Reloaded Studios, a recently formed
Korean game development company, today announce that they have entered into a
licensing agreement with Crytek, the German developers of the highly anticipated
upcoming release, Crysis, for use of the award winning CryENGINE 2 middleware to
develop their new Action Strategy MMORPG.
“Our technology team carefully reviewed and analyzed both the features and
limitations of all of the major game engines and middleware solutions which are
currently available to license, before making our choice.” says Ki-Yong Cho,
Chief Executive Officer of Reloaded Studios. “No other engine came close to
offering the dynamic features, developer friendly tools, or provided anything
near the visual quality of the CryENGINE 2. We felt it was extremely important
when our game is eventually released that it will still be able to stand apart
from all other titles, either currently existing or presently in development, in
what is now already a very competitive market. We felt only the CryENGINE 2
could support the dynamic content and massive landscapes we intend to build, let
alone do justice to the unique art style we plan on bringing to our MMO.
Licensing the CryENGINE 2 was an obvious and unanimous choice.”
“We are really looking forward to working together with Reloaded Studios on this
exciting new game development.” said Faruk Yerli, managing director of Crytek,
“The experienced team that Reloaded Studios has brought together will ensure
they have the talent and resources to create a blockbuster hit with this title.
When we saw the stunning concept visuals and exciting game design ideas they
shared with us we immediately knew that what they have planned will be a true
next-generation MMORPG, and become the kind of game which will set the visual
and game play standards against which future MMO‘s will be judged.”
Project Perfect Mod offers an unofficial
homebrew version 1.05 patch for Command & Conquer: The First Decade (thanks
Ant and
Command and Conquer DEN), since it seems possible that the second decade of
the RTS series might conclude before the promised next official patch shows up.
The patch addresses issues with Windows 95 compatibility mode, fixes LAN play,
and debugs other bugs. Of course, as with any unofficial patch, this update
is to be used at your own risk.
This press
release announces that Bounty Bay Online is, well, online, as the
pirate-themed MMOG is out of beta and available in the UK: Berlin,
14.09.2007: The open beta phase has ended – and the input and enthusiasm of
thousands of users across multiple territories, Bounty Bay Online today enters
UK online and high street game stores. Computer players can now charter a place
on the virtual decks of the MMOG role playing game, make historic discoveries
and fight great battles – either as a sea cruising solo adventurer or together
with other gamers under the flag of their own guild. Participants of the open
beta can take over their characters into the final game.
Bounty Bay Online is available at a SRP of £19.99. The first month of
subscription is free, and then the game requires a monthly subscription fee of
£6.99.
Bounty Bay Online puts gamers in the heyday of sailing ships. With their own
boat, they can explore the known world and visit 60 harbour cities in America,
Australia, Africa and Asia, but they can also set course towards European cities
like London. There, players can drop anchor and walk into the British capital of
the 15th to 17th centuries.

Well, the DirecTV dish upgrade went smoothly, though the new one is considerably
larger than the old one. However, aside from the backyard eyesore, the change is
minor, as they are only offering a few local channels as HD additions at this
point, with their big rollout still to come. And since they were already
offering local CBS, NBC, ABC, and Fox in HD in the NYC area, now I get each of
those stations twice in each of standard and high definitions, and the only
thing that's really new are the Mets and Yankees in HD. But for a sports fan,
that's nothing to sneeze at, and Mets games in HD would probably be the thing I
would ask for if I could only add one thing to the lineup.
