EA announces the sales and imminent release of four Macintosh editions of their
games, shortly after it was reported their Mac efforts were delayed
(
story). Word is that Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix,
Need for Speed Carbon, Battlefield 2142, and Command & Conquer 3: Tiberium Wars
are all now available in
The Apple Store. This is for think somewhat different Macs, rather than the
entirely different thinkers, as each game's system requirements include a
1.83GHz or faster Intel Core Duo processor.
Macworld
(thanks Peter) has a story about this quoting EA saying Madden NFL 2008 and
Tiger Woods PGA 2008 have been postponed, and Mac editions of both games are now
slated for "the September/October window."
A new demo for Combat Mission: Shock Force is now available, corresponding to
the recently released version 1.02 update for the military strategy game.
The updated demo is available on
FileFront and
Gamer's
Hell.
The Tao Of id - Kevin Cloud, Steve Nix Talk Tech, Future Of PC on Gamasutra
talks with the pair from id Software about various topics, such as that state of
PC gaming, mobile games, and engine licensing, prompting a separate post called
Id's Nix:
Id Tech 5 Not Using 'Stepchild Platform' Approach based on quotes from Nix
about engine licensing, saying id's Tech5 does not have a target system and
"stepchild platforms," but rather works more-or-less the same on all systems:
"…what I can say is that with id Tech 5 that we have a solution that runs
extremely well on the platforms today. It runs at a high framerate and it's not
really a bifurcated technology approach. Ninety percent of the code runs the
exact same in all the platforms. If you put an asset into the game once, it's
the exact same asset across all the platforms."
The
Gearbox Software
Jobs Page now lists a bunch of new openings to work on titles for PCs, next
generation consoles, and the Nintendo DS. Open positions include game programmer,
level designer, 3D modeler, concept artist, and texture artist. Word is:
"Announced projects are only a small part of Gearbox’s future – contact us to
learn more!"
This week's
Steam Message has word that Valve will release a trailer showing off the
Soldier class from TeamFortress 2 at next week's Leipzig Games Convention. Word
is the movie will appear on
Steam thereafter, and in the meantime, they've
posted some new Soldier screenshots. Only one shot is linked and that link
suffers the same bug that the HTML edition of these Steam messages always have,
so the correct links are:
image one,
image two, and
image three.
