The Crossing Revealed

Arkane Studios reveals development of The Crossing, an upcoming game that is described in their graphic as "Fusing SinglePlayer with MultiPlayer." There's a new The Crossing Product Section for the game, but there's nothing there at the moment. Word is: "If you’re wondering what game Arkane Studios is working on next, tune in to The 1UP Show from Ziff Davis. The fall season finale episode (#60, which airs December 22nd) will have a sneak-peek teaser of our next big project. Be sure to tune in then." The program (which can theoretically be streamed, but in our experience, had to be downloaded), offers a teaser for what's described as the first "crossplayer" FPS game.

Anno 1701 Euro Patches

This FTP directory offers downloads of patches to update the other versions of the strategy management sequel (also known as 1701 A.D.) to version 1.01. The French, Italian, Polish, Spanish, and U.K. editions of the update are also mirrored on 3D Gamers.

Saturday Matinee

Lara Croft: Tomb Raider Anniversary Product Section is live as home to the upcoming installment in the Tomb Raider series. On tap is some information about the game, but no new media. Thanks Frans.

The Shield Q&A

There's a The Shield Q&A on Worthplaying discussing the upcoming police game, and its resurrection from a near-death experience: "The Shield was at Alpha when it was cancelled. Although not tuned, it was mostly content complete and had a modest amount of QA by Sammy Studios. After The Shield was cancelled, most of that team rolled on to World Championship Poker 2. Fortunately, a few of the key artists and programmers were able to roll back on to the resurrected Shield project after Poker. Some of the NARC and NASCAR guys worked on The Shield, but they mostly focused on helping the remnants of the team realize their original vision for the game."

Half-Life Poke646: Vendetta

The Poke646 Website offers the release of Poke646: Vendetta, celebrating the fifth anniversary of the first installment in this Half-Life modification. For the moment this requires the Steam edition of Half-Life, but word is: "For the Steam non-lovers, we will post instructions on how to get P:V running under HL 1.1.1.0 within the next days. It's buggy, it's ugly and it's not supported... but it works."

Out of the Blue

Off to DaddyBlue's for the first of our family celebrations for the holidays this afternoon. It's possible my bro WalterEgo and clan will not be able to attend today, as their cat has been stricken with a medical emergency, and it's unclear how they will have to deal with that, so we may end up adding a previously unscheduled visit to our holiday itinerary. Here's hoping it doesn't come to that, as his kitty is an utter sweetheart, and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that it turns out to be something minor.
