Valve and Turtle Rock Studios announce development of Left 4 Dead, a cooperative
multiplayer action game using the Source engine that's slated for release next
year: November 20, 2006 - Turtle Rock Studios and Valve today announce
Left 4 Dead, a co-operative multiplayer action game from the makers of
Counter-Strike.
"By leveraging its industry-leading AI technology and years of Counter-Strike
development experience, Turtle Rock is building upon the elements that make
Counter-Strike successful and applying them to Left 4 Dead," said Gabe Newell,
co-founder and president of Valve. "What Counter-Strike did for multiplayer
action games, Left 4 Dead will do for co-op games."
Left 4 Dead is built atop the most advanced version of the Source Engine and
introduces version 2 of Turtle Rock's artificial intelligence (A.I.) technology.
Left 4 Dead will debut on the PC in 2007.
The
Ryzom Website (thanks
MMORPG.COM) reports that the French developer of the MMORPG Ryzom is in
financial distress, and will be entering receivership next month. They indicate
they expect to turn things around, and in the meantime, while they say the game
will continue to operate, they will be restructuring the way accounts are
handled until the whole receivership situation is resolved: •All existing subscribed accounts created before 3pm GMT will be turned into free account with 1 month of free access.
•It will not be possible to pay to subscribe to a full Ryzom account anymore.
•You will still be able to create a Free Trial account, but at the moment there will be no possibility to upgrade your account and go to mainland. As a result we've removed the level cap for the Free Trial to give players in the Ruins of Silan much more to achieve in the meantime.
As things develop you can expect a return to the usual more conventional account options soon.

RPG Vault's Elveon
Interview - Part 1 talks with Slavo Hazucha about the upcoming RPG based on
the movie of the same name: "To tell the whole story of Elveon would be too long
for this interview, but let me try to summarize the story in short. The gods
have left the world of Naon in a rush; it is the place they had wanted to
transform into their paradise. The Neamas, the Elves of the ancient times and
fellows of the gods have remained there all alone. A smoldering conflict is
gaining more and more importance, and a new era starts, which is marked by envy,
malevolence and relentless wars that prevent the gods' descendants from
fulfilling their inheritance. You are the hero of this epic, and your mission is
to achieve your objective, the fulfilment of the prophecy - namely the
liberation of the city of Nimathar - as the mightiest warrior of Naon because
this task would require the powers of a god."
Giants at Jags on Monday Night Football. Though last week's game was a poor
start on the re-launched Sunday Night Football, with a win earlier in the season
against the Cowboys on MNF, I'm hoping the history of the G-men doing poorly in
this showcase is reversing itself.

- Supreme Commander
The
Supreme Commander Q&A on Computer and Video Games chats up Chris Taylor
of Gas Powered Games about their upcoming RTS game: "Well, you're going to
find a lot of things that you look for in multiplayer: up to eight players,
teams, different victory conditions and commander options if you kill the
other player's Supreme Commander. Plus, we've also got what we call GPGnet,
which is our matchmaker - so you can get a rating when you play, get matched
against other players with a similar rating, create clans, compete in
ladders, have chat and friends lists. You can launch Supreme Commander from
within GPGnet if you want as well. We have a lot of cool things that we're
now able to do - for example, you can start a replay that's taken as you
play and broadcast it out in real-time - so your friends can come along,
click and watch the whole game."
- Green Monster
Green
Monster Games Q&A on FiringSquad talks with Major League pitcher Curt
Schilling about his ambition to create MMOGs: "About a decade ago, when I
thought my career would be coming to a close, I began to look at, and think
about, life after baseball. I had no interest in just opening a business, I
saw no challenge in that. I had serious interest in trying to become
‘something’ in an industry I had no real education in. However the only
criteria I had was that whatever it ended up being it had to be something I
had a deep seated passion for. Computer gaming, and more specifically MMO’s,
has always had my attention and passion."

It's been a little chaotic this morning at the BlueTower, I was enlisted to
chauffeur MrsBlue to the doctor for a check-up, then the schedule got changed,
and the appointment was ultimately cancelled. All-in-all it was much ado about
nothing, except of course for all the time it cost me.
