The Battlefield 2 Website (thanks Frans) has word from DICE and EA on plans for a roll-back
that they hope will solve some problems from the recent patch for the military
shooter: After a thorough investigation into the issues plaguing the
server browser after the 1.3 Update, we believe that a last minute update in the
way the Battlefield servers and Gamespy servers communicate may be the cause.
We have decided to revert this change in an attempt eliminate these browser
issues. Please note that no uninstalling or re-installing is required by players
or server admins. All servers currently running must be restarted once this
change has taken place.
Please also note that if you are experiencing CTD issues upon start up that any
alternate-ranking redirections in your windows "Hosts" file must be removed.
The reversion will occur at 2:00 PST. We are continuing to review other issues
players have noted with 1.3. Further updates will be posted to this space as
they become available."

- Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising
The
Older Gamers' Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising Q&A talks with Stieg Hedlund
from Perpetual Entertainment about their upcoming MMORPG: "That exactly
right. The gods demand obedience, and will require you to perform tasks to
gain standing with them and thereby the ability to call upon their powers.
Donations to the various temples of your god can also help to increase your
standing with him."
- The Operational Art of War 3
The
Operational Art of War 3 Q&A on Armchair General chats with tricky Ralph
Trickey about updating the classic wargame: "There are a lot of things that
can be done with TOAW still, anyone thinking for a minute should be able to
come up with some obvious things. Air modeling, Naval modeling, Modern
weapons modeling, PO Control of player units and formations. Team play,
internet play, 1800’s combat. I read a newsweek article on SAMS (School of
Advanced Military Studies) recently, and trying to modfy [sic] TOAW to
understand the recent wars like Iraq (including the peace) would be an
interesting challenge. Better event handling, a better PO (One that actually
understands the battlefield.). Optimizing it for quick internet connected
battles. I could go on for hours."
I've still got time to vote for the American Idol, right?

- John Carmack
John
Carmack: The SPOnG interview talks with the id Software Technical
Director: "I’m a peripheral player in Enemy Territory. I did some technology
for it, but it’s not really been my game: Kevin [Cloud] has been the lead
guy at id over that. Splash Damage have been really great to work with. On
the technology side, it has been rewarding. I did these two core pieces of
technology for them, and explained where I thought the value was and what
they could do with it, and they got it immediately. They ran with it and did
some great stuff and, if anything, it makes me look really good."
- Star Trek Online
The
Star Trek Online Q&A on Ten Ton Hammer talks with Daron Stinnett and
Glen Dahlgren of Perpetual Entertainment about their upcoming MMORPG: "Why
are our guilds called fleets? Because pretty early in your career, you’re
going to get a ship. It won’t be the bigger, cooler ships that require crews
to fly them, but it’ll be yours. And the kind of content that a gathering of
higher-level players will be interested in will involve all of these ships
in an armada. At that point, you’re talking about a fleet. The larger fleets
might even earn bases of their own, like a floating clubhouse or guildhall.
These could be capital ships, likely not available to individuals, but also
not necessarily used in the same way as other ships—mostly great places to
live and interact with your other fleet members."
- The Witcher
Gamingnext's
The Witcher Q&A talks with Michał Madej of CD Projekt about their
role-playing game: "Combat in The Witcher is a long way from mindless
clicking or useless observations which have no effect on events. We link
just the right amount of developmental and tactical elements with
compelling, dynamic and effective action. Some specifics: tactics include
constant decisions regarding the choice of weapons (the infamous two swords
– one for humans and one for monsters), changes in battle style, enhanced by
the use of magical Signs and elixirs. Basic combat involves carrying out a
sequence of blows, which requires a feeling for the tempo of combat and
clicking just at the final moment of previous blow. It’s a simple method,
but highly effective, if not to say addictive."
- Bad Day LA
The
Bad
Day LA Q&A on FiringSquad talks with American McGee about the upcoming
action game: "We've already seen some minor reaction from politicians,
homeless groups, and concerned citizens. Honestly, I'll be surprised if it
gets attacked very much, because it is dealing with issues that I think your
standard 'video games are bad' crowd don't want to talk about. That's part
of the point. The game address issues like homelessness, fear culture, and
race in a way that I think these critics will be afraid to talk about."
GameSpy Arcade is holding a chat with Gas Powered Games this evening at 7:00

We managed another Girl Scout cookies re-supply late in the season: MrsBlue can
be very resourceful. As is appropriate, most of them were Thin Mints, but the
Lemon Coolers are a new favorite. And yes, they are good for breakfast.
