New Call of Duty skipping PC reflects info from an Activision Conference
call that the next game in the Call of Duty series will be for next-generation
consoles only. The story stops short of hitting the panic button over the future
of the PC side of the franchise, however. They say this is likely an adaptation
of a previous release, and that it is still likely that
the next full game in the series (presumably CoD3) will be developed by Infinity
Ward for consoles and PCs for release in 2007 (which is in line with recent rumors on the
topic ( story)).
The iEntertainment Network announces USAF
Pilot Training: Road to the ThunderBirds, an upcoming United States Air Force
licensed flight simulation: CARY, N.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)—May 4 , 2006--
iEntertainment Network, (BB:IENT.pk), the award-winning developer of the World
Famous WarBirds TotalSims series, announced today that USAF Pilot Training: Road
to the ThunderBirds! will be released in Retail stores in November 2006.
iEntertainment Network is also working with the United States Air Force and will
be given the license to use official United States Air Force Logos for the
product. The Air Force has also offered to provide additional technical data,
facts, and support to make the USAF Pilot Training: Road to the ThunderBirds a
very accurate simulation and presentation of real United States Air Force Pilot
Training. IENT has not yet selected a retail-publishing partner but is
discussing that option with publishers at this time.
The new simulation, USAF Pilot Training: Road to the ThunderBirds, will follow a
new student from their commissioning as a new 2nd Lieutenant, to the awarding of
their pilot wings in a simulation with great role-playing, scoring, medals, and
ranking systems. This simulation will use real Air Force training methods and
allow the player to learn to fly the T-6 Texan II, the T-1A Jayhawk, the T-38
Talon, and the F-16 Fighting Falcon.
The simulation will introduce the new player to all the features and functions
of the real cockpits of these aircraft, teach the real maneuvers that student
pilots practice, and provide realistic “Check Rides” like the real student
pilots take in actual USAF Pilot Training. The ultimate simulation reward will
be for the student pilot to earn the opportunity to fly with the United States
Air Force ThunderBirds in their real routine as the number 4 formation pilot!
“As a former USAF Instructor Pilot, doing this simulation game is a rerun of my
young, exciting and fun Lieutenant days,” says JW “Wild Bill Stealey”, CEO of
IENT. “I know that my student would have benefited greatly and become better
pilots, sooner, if they had this kind of simulation when they were in Pilot
Training. Many of my Air Force friends, several former Air Force Instructor
Pilots, and numerous retired aviators have agreed to assist IENT in making this
a great training simulation. It is very exciting to be back working with all of
them again!”

Software's upcoming "AAA, FPS, Sci-fi, action and adventure game with an

probably created the undesired impression that this was all somehow related to
instant messaging. The site offers five new screenshots and a new trailer.

Take Command: 2nd Manassas: New York, USA (May 4, 2006) - Paradox
Interactive announced today that extra content for Take Command: 2nd Manassas is
now available through the start menu of the retail and download version of the
game! Players will be able to enjoy two extra scenarios at the click of a
button.
"Cannon and Thunder" - Reno's Corps
Historically, the Battle of Chantilly was fought as a series of disconnected
attacks by the Union forces. In this scenario, you play as Major General Jesse
L. Reno. You will have command of all of the historically accurate Union forces.
It is your choice to follow history or your own ideas of how it ought to have
been done. Do you have what it takes to keep your cool amid cannon fire and
thunder? Take Command!
"Meeting at Ox Hill" - Jackson's Corps
This is a speculative scenario assuming that Major General Pope had acted on the
intelligence that Jackson and Longstreet were separated. If General Pope had
tried for a knockout blow against Jackson’s Corps, this is what might have
happened. You command as Major General Thomas J. Jackson against all the forces
that the Union can scrape up to attack your position. Can your troops hold
against the Union attacks at Ox Hill? Take Command!

- Armed Assault
The
Armed Assault Q&A on
Gameguru Mania talks with Paul Statham of Bohemia Interactive about
their upcoming shooter: "Part of the whole reason for creating ArmA is that
we want to reacquaint gamers with the core gameplay and experience that made
the original Flashpoint such a labour of love for all who played it, so
certainly we want them to continue to feel the same levels of immersion and
gameplay when they're playing ArmA. That said, technology has moved on a
long way since 2001, even if perhaps gameplay and game design really hasn't
moved on much with regards innovation. So for us it was important to retain
the key elements of gameplay yet enhancing the engine in terms of graphics,
functionality, realism and such, we believe that all these elements will
combine to create an experience that has not been seen before."
- Warhammer Online
Warhammer
Alliance's Erik Mogensen Q&A talks with Games Workshop about Warhammer
Online: "We have to feel like it's a type of product that suits the
Warhammer IP. For example, it's pretty easy to see that an MMO set in the
Warhammer World could work, and could rock. Black Orc pillow cases on the
other hand... A bit more of a stretch and not something we're likely to be
interested in. Another factor is money, of course. Any prospective licensee
needs to provide us with a comprehensive business plan and needs to convince
us they can deliver a certain amount of financial success. By far the most
important factor however, is that we need to 'click' with the licensee. That
might sound weird, but we really only want to work with people that share
our love of our worlds and we see working with them as more than just a
commercial exercise. Sometimes when I'm with the guys from Mythic it feels
like we actually work for the same company - now that's a perfect licensing
partner."

Colin McRae to return in 2007 with a sensational next-generation off-road racing
experience is the press release announcing the continuation of the rally
racing series. The PC edition is not mentioned, though all previous installments
in the series have included a PC installment: Colin McRae Rally, the
genre-leading off-road racer, is to return in 2007, Codemasters announced today.
The all-new McRae game, (working title CMR’07), is now in development
exclusively for next-generation platforms.
After a two-year break for the series, Codemasters Studios’ designers are back
creating a totally reinvigorated McRae experience. The new Colin McRae title
will go beyond the series’ point-to-point rallying to deliver the most diverse
selection of extreme off-road competitions. Sensational gravel, mud and dirt
racing events from the world over will include perilous Hill Climb and
collision-packed Rally Cross events.
International rallying competitions will also feature, with official cars on
tracks based on real roads and locations around the globe. The title will also
expand on beat-the-clock racing and include events with multiple cars on track
to satisfy anyone who wants to push their on-the-edge driving just that bit
further.
Says Gavin Raeburn, Executive Producer at Codemasters: “The all-new Colin McRae
Rally will be a real evolution for the series and offer a massive variety of
off-road events, more than any other single-championship rally game has before.
It’s being designed to offer a totally accessible, high-speed ride for newcomers
to the series, yet hardened McRae players will be able to delve under the bonnet
and immerse themselves in the most challenging of competitions.”
With official cars and official events across a wide variety of off-road and
rally disciplines, the most authentic and thrilling tracks ever in a McRae game,
modes that make the most of online multiplayer and the series’ trademark
intuitive car handling system tuned to perfection, Colin McRae Rally is evolving
and will appear on next-generation systems in 2007.

Reservoir Dogs
Tarantino's Cult Classic To Make Gaming Debut has further details on the
upcoming game based on the cult classic Quentin Tarantino film: Eidos Interactive, one of the world’s leading publishers and developers of
entertainment software, part of SCi Entertainment Group Plc (SEG), today
announces further details for Reservoir Dogs™ on the Xbox™ video
game and entertainment system from Microsoft, the PlayStation®2 computer
entertainment system and PC, releasing in autumn 2006.
In 1992 an unknown director released a film about five total strangers, teaming
up to commit the perfect crime. The heist went wrong, people were killed and
they smelt a rat. This is the premise for one of the most esteemed and
duplicated directorial film debuts of all time. Based on Quentin Tarantino’s
cult classic and staying true to the original plot and chronology, this intense
third person shooter follows the progress and planning of that famed heist,
filling in some of the blanks left from the film: What happened to Mr. Blue and
Mr. Brown? Where did Mr. Pink hide the diamonds? What actually happened at the
heist? These questions and more will be answered as the game unfolds.
“We are proud to be working with one of the most original films to be released
in our lifetime on a gaming format,” said Helen Lawson, Brand Manager, Eidos
Interactive. “RESERVOIR DOGS will appeal to both movie and gaming fans, and
offers an unprecedented opportunity to play through the events of the movie and
fill in the gaps.”
Featuring the full, iconic soundtrack from the movie, the super sounds of the
seventies brought to life including; ‘Little Green Bag’ and the unforgettable ‘Stuck in the middle with you’, play as all of the
characters in this violent version of the film.
RESERVOIR DOGS will be released on PlayStation 2, Xbox and PC from autumn
2006.

Bethesda
Softworks Response to the ESRB Rating Change for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
has word that Bethsoft is cooperating fully with the ESRB to reflect the new "M"
rating for The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion ( story), though they
also want to make it clear that they were not even sipping hot cocoa when
applying for the game's rating, much less drinking hot coffee: Bethesda
Softworks made what it believes was a full, accurate, and comprehensive
submission on Oblivion to the ESRB months before the game’s release. Bethesda
used the ESRB’s application forms and believes it adhered closely to their
requirements. Nothing was hidden from the ratings agency. No effort was made by
Bethesda to lobby or influence the agency for any particular rating.
The ESRB has concluded that the game deserves a rating of Mature because: 1)
partial nudity in the PC version of the game can be created by modders; and 2)
the game contains excessive blood and gore that go beyond a Teen rating. The
facts are as follows:
There is no nudity in Oblivion without a third party modification. In the PC
version of the game only – this doesn’t apply to the Xbox 360 version – some
modders have used a third party tool to hack into and modify an art archive file
to make it possible to create a mesh for a partially nude (topless) female that
they add into the game. Bethesda didn’t create a game with nudity and does not
intend that nudity appear in Oblivion. There is no nude female character in a
section of the game that can be “unlocked.” Bethesda can not control tampering
with Oblivion by third parties. Bethesda is taking steps to ensure that modders
can not continue to hack into Oblivion’s art archives to create partially nude
figures.
With regard to violence, Bethesda advised the ESRB during the ratings process
that violence and blood effects were “frequent” in the game – checking the box
on the form that is the maximum warning. We further advised that the game
contained occasional torture, vulgar acts, and gore. We gave accurate answers
and descriptions about the type and frequency of violence that appears in the
game. We submitted a 60-page document listing the explicit language, acts, and
scenes in the game. Oblivion packaging already contains warnings for “Violence”
and “Blood and Gore.”
We value the role of the ESRB and believe the rating agency plays a valuable
role in regulating our industry. As always, we will continue work in good faith
to comply fully with the ESRB’s standards and policies.

- Neverwinter Nights 2
The
Neverwinter
Nights 2 Q&A with Chris Avellone and J.E. Sawyer on RPGDot talks with
Obsidian Entertainment about the RPG sequel: "We make extensive use of
Diplomacy, Bluff, Intimidate, and deception and lying in general, as well as
some more unusual skills for influencing others in dialogue, including
Perform and Taunt. Without giving too much away about moments in the
plotline, there's plenty of ways to crush your opponents and defeat them
with just the right word or turn of phrase. There are even instances where
the companions can back you up with certain skills (Neeshka can occasionally
help you pull out of a Taunt or Lie-based Failure, for example). Aside from
skills, we also use a number of attributes common from the Black Isle games,
including Intelligence and Wisdom and various class and race-based
responses."
- Age of Conan
ToTheGame's
Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures Q&A talks with Funcom about their
upcoming Conan MMORPG: "Well, we are just about to complete our take on the
ages, with Age of Conan being at the end of the fourth age, Anarchy Online
being in the sixth age, and our next online RPG being in the fifth age?. No,
seriously, we had always wanted to make a fantasy RPG, and once we could
start to free resources of Anarchy Online and Shadowlands, fantasy was the
direction we first started looking towards. Not only did we have lots of
internal motivation for such a project, but we were also “lucky” enough to
get hold of a great license. And the more we dived into the Hyborian age,
the more we understood how incredibly diverse the license was. It’s a far
shout from the run-of-the-mill Elves, Orcs and Dwarves fantasy universes
which surrounds us everywhere these days. In Conan almost everything is
twisted and dark, and more than anything humankind itself is at the centre.
True, there are evil demons, gods and monsters lurking everywhere, but the
humans are the “rulers” of the world. This allows us to make a very
different and more brutal and realistic fantasy experience, far from what
you have experienced in any Online RPG before."
The NetDevil Employment
Opportunities has four new openings for programmers listed to work on an
unannounced future project.
