Evening Q&As

  • Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter
Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter Q&A on GameSpot catches up with Adrian JF Lacey to ask 'what if' about the special force shooter sequel: "In terms of level design and visual feeling, we wanted to create a game with a harsh, hot urban environment. But we wanted something different and diverse in terms of landscapes, which would directly affect the gameplay. Mexico City offered the scenery to exploit the visual power of next-generation hardware, as well as exposing the player to dilemmas of both vertical and horizontal gameplay."
  • Age of Mourning
RPG Vault's Age of Mourning Update Q&A talks with Andrei Gireada about the dawn of the Age of Mourning after mourning the death of the original Mourning project: "Mourning was officially terminated sometime after it launched, so Age of Mourning should be considered a completely new project based on the prior work, with a few new individuals involved. Age of Mourning is a PvP-centered online RPG. The player will enter a world, and based on his or her actions, will come to rule part of it. Currently the world has more than 100 square kilometers and has several types of land - temperate forests, frozen lands, a magical type of elf forest, and wastelands."
  • Dark Messiah of Might & Magic
An interview with Arkane Studios about Dark Messiah of Might & Magic on RPGDot is a Q&A with Raphael Colantonio and Julien Roby of Arkane Studios about their coming M&M game: "In Dark Messiah, you are Sareth, apprentice to a powerful wizard. He has raised you for a single purpose, training you in the arts of magic and war. At the beginning of the game you are given an ancient artifact and ordered to carry it to a friend of your master. It seems like a simple task … But of course, yours will be a sinuous journey, filled with unexpected encounters and revelations, and upon your quest, looms the shadow of the Dark Messiah..."

Dear Diary

A new FlatOut 2 Diary on the BugBear Website (thanks Frans) discusses a "particularly nice feature called replays." Though of course this is not the innovation that makes it sound like, they point out that not all racing games include support for replays in describing how this will be implemented in their racing sequel.

Morning Q&As

  • id Software
The id Software Q&A on PlanetQuake4.net talks with Donnie "SyncError" Domino, new community liaison at id Software: "Over the passing months since Quake4's release, id grew concerned over their own lack of connectivity with the community. This was something that greatly bothered them and they knew they needed to resolve. They specifically were looking for someone who could manage several technical fields including maintaining the website, online store, online game servers, resolving technical network, hardware and software issues in the office, while interfacing with the community as to open up that channel of communication where bug fixes could be properly addressed and community feature requests could be gathered and implemented."
  • Splinter Cell: Double Agent
Gamecloud's Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell: Double Agent Q&A talks with Daniel Roy of Ubisoft about the next installment in the stealthy shooter series: "Sam has been to many different locales in his career so far, but this time around, we wanted to place him in totally different situations altogether. We wanted to strip him of his gadgets, his NSA support… In short, take away the comforts of his high-tech gear. A jail was the perfect setup for this: it allows us to strip Sam of his gear (although, fear not, he eventually gets to play with cool toys), and it allowed us to show him in a deep undercover mission."
  • Guild Wars: Factions
The Guild Wars: Factions Q&A on EuroGamer is an article-format Q&A with Jeff Strain about the upcoming expansion for ArenaNet's MMORPG and the future in general: "If that changes, though, then we're ready. All of our technology is developed in an engine-agnostic format; we can very quickly plug in the client component for different platforms. Certainly, all the back-end technology, the server technology, doesn't care what the host platform is at all, so we could very easily do versions of our games that inter-operate across different platforms."

Out of the Blue

Well, the snow started on schedule as if it was waiting on a countdown, and continues to fall even as I type. Here's hoping this plays out to minimize the shoveling, but even more so here's hoping this is the last snow of the season, as Spring starts in under three weeks. Just don't tell my dogs of that wish, since there's nothing they enjoy more than romping in the snow.
