I'm finally about recovered from the aches induced by playing the children's
pitching game this past weekend. That's pretty humiliating... I think I need to
embark on a training program before I try this again.

This Perpetual Entertainment
Press Release (thanks Frans) announces that Sony Online Entertainment has
signed on to co-publish Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising, the upcoming online
action/RPG. Interestingly, in spite of SOE's prominence in the MMO market, they
will only be responsible for the game's marketing and distribution in North
America, while Perpetual will host and operate the game. Here's a bit:
Gods & Heroes: Rome Rising features an innovative style of combat not
seen in other online multiplayer games, courtesy of Perpetual Entertainment Lead
Designer Stieg Hedlund, lead designer of the best-selling RPG Diablo II.
Reminiscent of an Action/RPG, combat moves can be linked together and even
include "finishing" moves to provide a more dynamic, dramatic and visceral feel
to battles. Squad-based combat is another unique aspect of Gods & Heroes: Rome
Rising; players will earn and command Non-Player Characters (NPCs) in a variety
of strategic groupings to form individual squads, create unique formations and
implement combat tactics for these squads to execute on command, maximizing
their power in combat.
As noted on the Ensemble Studios Website
(thanks Frans), the promised new update for Age of Empires III is now
automatically available, updating the RTS sequel to version 1.05. Details on
what's changed can be found in the
Version 1.05 Patch Notes.
No manual editions of the update are yet available.
Battlezone II Community
Project, headed by BZ2 programmers Ken Miller and Nathan Mates, evidently
still lives. They are now offering a new beta 2 version 1.3 patch for the
action/strategy sequel, which represents about as long a patch development cycle
as we've ever seen, as beta one was released over two years ago
( story). It is warned that the new patch is unsupported, it will
overwrite content in the French and German editions with English, and it fixes the
long-standing infinite flying bug that not everyone considers a bug.
- The Garriott Brothers
Interview:
The Garriott Brothers - Part 2 on GameDaily BIZ continues to talk with
Lord British and his brother (Duke British?) about their long history in the
game business: "What's interesting about game development is we've always
been big believers that great ideas are a dime a dozen; the ability to
execute is incredibly rare... I'm a big believer of doing lots and lots of
ideas and even fragments of ideas and you kind of assemble this hill of
'here are some ideas that work together but I can't see how to finish it, so
let me sweep up a different group of ideas, and you finally get this big
enough hill and I can see the missing parts and I'm confident I can engineer
past these other gaps to create a great game.' That's the way I individually
work."
- Game Lobbying

Happy March! This is that whole 'in like a lion - out like a lamb' month, and true
to that we have another big snowstorm predicted for tomorrow. And what has
happened over the past few years to make me concerned about this? Used to be the
accuracy of the weather reports was a joke, but I think they must have gotten
some alien machinery running at Area 51 with how these things have become so
much more accurate in recent times.
