I spent a couple of hours clippering hair off of Gunnar today, and I swear I am
only halfway done. Dogs seem so much smaller when you aren't trying to remove a
couple of pounds of hair from them.
Bethesda Softworks announces its acquisition of the Star Trek license and a pair
of Trek games they are planning, a mobile game called Star Trek Tactical
Assault and the already revealed ( story) PC/console game Star
Trek: Legacy. Legacy is being developed by Mad Doc Software, and is planned for
release this September. Here's word: (Rockville, MD) January 24, 2006 -
Bethesda Softworks® today announced it has secured the rights from CBS Consumer
Products to publish a series of Star Trek games on all gaming consoles,
handhelds and PCs. Bethesda has two titles slated for release this year to
coincide with the 40th anniversary of the epic series – Star Trek®: Legacy for
Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from Microsoft and PC, and Star
Trek®: Tactical Assault for Nintendo DS™ and Sony PSP™ (PlayStation® Portable).
Bethesda’s rights cover the entire Star Trek series and are exclusive to all
consoles, handhelds, and the PC.
Star Trek: Legacy places you in the role of the Admiral of a task force of
warships, which you control in small and large-scale battles. Test your
strategic and tactical skills in real-time combat featuring authentic
spaceships, full damage modeling, and spectacular visual effects. The storyline
in Legacy spans the entire Star Trek Universe, including the Original Series,
Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, Voyager, and Enterprise eras. Star Trek:
Legacy will be released on Xbox 360™ video game and entertainment system from
Microsoft and PC this September.
Taking advantage of next-generation consoles, Star Trek: Legacy features dynamic
three-dimensional battlefields with graphically stunning space environments
filled with fully realized nebulas, wormholes, planets, and stars. With full
multiplayer support, you will be able to choose from small-scale engagements to
all-out war involving multiple star systems in addition to tracking stats and
player rankings. Star Trek: Legacy is being developed at the studios of Mad Doc
Software, creators of the highly successful and critically acclaimed Star Trek
Armada II.
“Being able to work with the entire universe of this beloved series is an
incredibly exciting opportunity for us,” said Todd Vaughn, vice president of
development for Bethesda Softworks. “We have some great ideas about where we
want to go with this license and having the exclusive right to develop and
publish Star Trek games across all platforms ensures that every Star Trek game
will be a quality game worthy of its name.”
This
Atari Press Release (thanks Frans) echoes the announcement that
Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under
Pressure is gold, saying The Collective's urban-themed action game is due on
European store shelves on February 17: LYON, FRANCE – 24 January 2006 –
Atari and Marc Ecko, the visionary behind several of today’s most respected
youth lifestyle brands, today announced that Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents
Under Pressure has gone gold and is on schedule for European launch on February
17.
Set in the city of New Radius, Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure
features a world where freedom of expression is suppressed by a tyrannical city
government. In the game, players assume the role of Trane – an unlikely hero
just looking to get up until he realizes there is much more at stake. Gamers
learn and master various graf skills, starting as a toy (beginner) graffiti
artist and using street-smarts, athletic prowess and vision necessary to become
an “All City King,” the most reputable of all graffiti artists. During their
quest, players risk their lives navigating vertical landscapes while battling
rival crews, a corrupt Mayor and the city’s Civil Conduct Keepers (CCK) all in
an effort to reach the sweet spots of New Radius, where a well-placed tag brings
respect and reputation. Gamers also find themselves with an even greater burden
– to use their high-wire graffiti talents to expose the oppressive mayor and set
the city free.
“With its unique fusion of authentic urban culture and diverse gameplay
elements, Marc Ecko’s Getting Up: Contents Under Pressure represents a new and
original gaming experience,” said Cyril Voiron, Marketing Director, Atari
Europe. “In a games market where the combination of genuine originality and
engaging gameplay are highly valued, this title delivers.”

- Rainbow Six: Lockdown
Gamecloud's
Rainbow Six: Lockdown Q&A is a conversation with Stuart White about the
PC edition of the upcoming installment in the tactical shooter series: "We
have been hard at work creating PC specific features such as, a modified
mission structure, enhanced graphics, improved AI behaviors, and a new
combat model to give the player more flexibility in approaching challenges.
We also have added lots of new weapons with the ability to customize each
weapon with attachments. There are a total of 42 weapons that the player can
choose from and 4 attachments that they can use to customize their gameplay
experience."
- Neverwinter Nights 2
The
Neverwinter Nights 2 Q&A on ActionTrip talks with Ferret Baudoin and
Tony Evans of Obsidian Entertainment about the upcoming D&D RPG: "The
Neverwinter Nights 2 campaign is replete with branching paths, expansive
areas to explore and hidden secrets to uncover, which makes for a lot of
replay value. The campaign is just linear enough to allow us to tell an epic
story, but packed with enough optional content to keep players coming back
for more. Playing through the Neverwinter Nights 2 campaign will leave the
player satisfied, but not inundated and drowning in a sea of meaningless
choices."
- Irth Online
Irth
to Ten Ton Hammer, Part 2 on Ten Ton Hammer talks further with Thomas
Gale of Magic Hat about their upcoming MMORPG: "Versatility and flexibility.
You have lots of flexibility in customizing your player character with
clothing and armor and equipment. You have a good chunk of options for
crafting various items that add unique detail to your little corner of the
world and that library of desirables is only going to grow with time. You
have freedom to travel almost anywhere across a vast landscape. With time,
the world will become lush with custom details that are player influenced
and often player designed."
