Tank Killer Announced

City Interactive reveals plans for Tank Killer, an upcoming armored combat game that will use the engine from T-72: Balkans on Fire, although with a more action-oriented approach than that more hardcore simulation:

Warsaw, December 16, 2005 -- Ambitious publisher of computer games City Interactive has signed an agreement with the Ukrainian developer Crazy House to publish World War 2 PC action game “Tank Killer”.

The title is scheduled for launch in Q2 2006 and will be translated into various languages including English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Russian and Polish.

“Tank Killer” is developed internally by the experienced team of around 20 people at Crazy House and from now on will be solely produced and financed by City Interactive.

Marek Tyminski, CEO of City Interactive, said: “This is a strategic step for our company. With "Tank Killer" we are launching a new chapter: developing games by external studios in Eastern Europe. Crazy House’s “T-72 Balkans on Fire” proved to be a quality title that received good rating from special interest media. "Tank Killer" is the natural direction for the developer, however to achieve commercial success, it will be also need to be aimed at action-oriented gamers, not only to pure sim fans.”

Yuriy Likhota, President of Crazy House: “It is also a strategic step for our company to cooperate with City Interactive. We are going to produce a spectacular game on the base of the T-72 engine that already proved itself in the world market.

City Interactive is in talks with a number of developers to further expand its portfolio.

New products will be announced soon.

The Early Show

Quake 4 Beta Bug?

AMDZone reports on efforts to pinpoint a problem with the recently released beta version of Quake 4 and some server performance issues in a multi-threading environment. They have word from NVIDIA that this is possibly due to a bug in multithreading support in their 80 series drivers. Here's more:

From reports we have seen around the web this seems to be an issue with Intel and AMD systems alike. Also it is possible that any other game with multithreading support could also have performance issues. We have not seen any reports as of yet with ATI's Catalyst 5.12 drivers which also support dual core having similar results. Stay tuned as we continue our Quake 4 testing to bring you more information.

Morning Q&As

Roma Victor Pre-orders

Roma Victor Pre-order Today is the promised (story) announcement that pre-orders for the MMORPG are underway, which also permit access to the game's beta testing. They offer a broken link to the pre-order page, that is actually located here, but that will deny access unless you create a forum account first (perhaps all meant as a puzzle game to gauge your worthiness). Word is:

"We're looking forward to opening up our virtual world gradually, and to an ever wider audience," said Kerry Fraser-Robinson, Managing Director of RedBedlam. "We do stress that Roma Victor is still being tested and pre-order customers shouldn't expect a finished game just yet. But we are sure they'll love the features on offer: once they've learned the basic skills, combat and navigation systems, players can quickly learn different crafts and skills to produce everything in the game by themselves, from knives and spears to their houses, workshops and stables."

Galactic Dream Updated Demo

Evolution Vault now offers an updated demo for Galactic Dream, as well as a patch for the demo released yesterday to bring it up to the same version 1.01.02. The patch notes outline what's new and different. Thanks Frans.

A little scheduled maintenance by my ISP has gone a little longer than scheduled, leaving my email from the last 12 hours slowing trickling in. A hearty thanks to Frans for helping track down some of today's stories that I was missing as a result. In the meantime, mail you may have sent me may still be in the pipe, but hopefully this will continue to work itself out.
