SOE's John
Smedley on the kinder, gentler Galaxies on GameSpot is a Q&A with the SOE
CEO about how SOL many SWG players have been feeling since the most recent spate
of changes to the game: "We spent quite a bit of time and money doing product
research. We did a number of focus groups and talked specifically about changes
that we could make to the interface, to the combat, and to the overall gameplay
experience--to make it a lot more fun. We also did surveys asking the current
user base what was missing, what were things we could do to make the game
better."
Just in time for DOOM's birthday, version 1.0 of the Classic DOOM 3 modification
is now available from
Flaming Sheep
Software (thanks
Ant). Included are some new maps to complete the Knee
Deep in the Dead episode.
zzDeathmatch is a
modification for Brothers in Arms that adds support for traditional deathmatch
and team DM to Gearbox' World War II shooter. The mod was created by Jeffrey
Broome of Gearbox, but this is not an official or supported project, but rather
is an example of the power of the game's SDK, and an example/template for future
mod authors.
A new
Brothers in Arms SDK
Wiki is online, using that wacky wiki concept to create a resource for those
creating maps and modifications for Gearbox Software's World War II shooter.
It was on this day in 1993 today that DOOM was first released (thanks
Ant).
That makes the game 12 years old,
Tom Hall's DOOM Bible is over 13 years old, and that nostalgia site
5 Years of Doom on which it is hosted
is now over seven years old. We should use game years to describe such things,
like dog years. DOOM is 84 in dog years... it has to be at least that old in
game years.
