Evening Q&As

  • The Fantastic Four
The Fantastic 4 Q&A on TotalVideoGames talks with Jeff Gardiner, lead designer at 7 Studios, about the upcoming comic/movie tie-in: "The game follows the general story arc of the movie, but also delves into some side-plots that feature environments and enemies pulled straight from the comic book universe. This has allowed us to put more action into the game than we could normally develop out of an ‘origins’ story. We think it will be extremely exciting and rewarding for fans of the original comic to come across such familiar faces as Moleman and Diablo. The story was written by Zak Penn (writer of X2: X-Men United), Martin Signore and myself."
  • Infinium Labs
Twistedmonkey Kevin Bachus Q&A Part 1 kicks off a conversation with Infinium about the Phantom console system: "Well you know if you read some websites gamers have never trusted Infinium Labs. (Laughs) Look, I know that a lot of people have been burned in the past by mis-set expectations across the board in the games industry and so gamers, by nature, are very skeptical. Launching a new system like this as a startup company has been challenging and I think that it is appropriate for people to be skeptical. People were skeptical, like I said, I was joking a moment ago but people have been skeptical about this company from the start. I was skeptical about this company when I first heard about it. And so I think a healthy amount of skepticism is fair and appropriate and will continue until the product ships. I still believe to this day that there were a large number of folks throughout the world who believed the night before Xbox launched that it would startup and there’d be a desktop start menu there. And so it’s natural and it’s healthy."

Restricted Area Patch

The Restricted Area Website now offers downloads of a new hotfix, updating Master Creating's action/RPG to version 1.09 (thanks Frans). Word is: "The text in the Starter application option window was wrong, for example switiching [sic] to 32 Bit color caused the game to run in windowed mode instead."

Morning Q&As

  • Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Q&A on Game Chronicles discusses the upcoming installment in Bethesda's RPG series with Todd Hunter "The game starts inside a prison cell, which happens to be a secret escape route the Emperor and his guards, the Blades, are using to evade an assassin. You make your escape and before the Emperor dies he hands you the Amulet of Kings, the token of the true emperor, and implores you to find the rightful heir to the throne and shut the jaws of Oblivion. Favorite sequence, hmmm, there’s a part after you find the heir and reunite him with the Blades that I love."
  • MsQuakeCon
The Alana Ried Q&A on VIA Gamers Web Site talks with the leader of the Girlz of Destruction clan and winner of MsQuakecon 2004...

Out of the Blue

We went on our hunt for an air conditioner yesterday... It's embarrassing to be part of the unthinking herd reacting too late to a situation. This is exactly the feeling I got as we picked over the meager leftovers that were left by some savage mob of more timely shoppers inspired by the recent heat wave. The big disappointment was our first stop, which was to Sears, a place that had provided us with some very smooth shopping experiences in the past. We waited over 20 minutes in the merchandise pick-up area before we were informed that the unit we had been sold was not actually in stock... but even worse, when they learned this, they went off to tell our salesperson, rather than us, about the problem. This was one of several uncharacteristic glitches there, leading to suspicions that their recent change in ownership is starting to bear rotten fruit. I can only hope I am wrong about that, seeing how much we used to like that place.

On the bright side, I've discovered that the recent rearrangement of the layout in my office places the old air conditioner (which only turns out to be, as Miracle Max would out it, mostly dead) pointed right at the back of my head. It's been some time since this small older unit has had the horsepower too cool this office, but it is pretty effective when blowing directly on my neck, so at least I have a fall-back plan for enduring the heat wave besides just melting.
