- Battlefield 2
The
Battlefield 2 Q&A on GameSpot discusses the upcoming military
multiplayer shooter sequel with DICE's Sean Decker:
"And Battlefield 2 will offer a lot more to the Battlefield veteran. Players
will, of course, be able to play with modern weapons and vehicles, such as
wire-guided antitank missiles, laser-guided bombs, and the joint strike
fighter. They will also be able to play the game with squads and commanders.
These give them some unique tools to help them play together more
effectively. These tools include being able to track their teammates, use
the built-in voice-over-IP real-time chat to talk to their squads, and even
spawn in on their squad leaders' locations when they die. Another great
feature is that the game will have built-in tracking of statistics and
rankings of all the players worldwide who play on ranked servers. This
allows you to build up a history with your player, unlock new weapons, and
earn various rewards."
- Guild Wars
The
Guild Wars Q&A on Computer and Video Games puts the squeeze on Jeff
Strain of ArenaNet for details about their upcoming MMORPG: "So in Guild
Wars world travelling is done by opening up a map and clicking on a
location. It's as simple as that. We're sticking in magic portals to make it
more believable, but it's not something we're getting hung up on. The
emphasis is on getting where you want to go and having fun. It's the same
with getting into missions and forming parties - you go where you want and
there should be people there who want to do the same thing. Even the item
system is designed for ease of use. You don't get rewarded with a more
powerful weapon for playing sixty hours, but you may have a very different
sword because you've customised it with all the items and rewards you've
collected. Again, it's not about how long you spend in the game but what you
do with that time." More Guild Wars Q&A action can be found in the latest
Fansite

The Unofficial GuildWars Site).
- Telladar Chronicles: Decline
The
Telladar Chronicles: Decline Q&A on Gamer's Hell chats with Sergey
Snisarenko of Game Factory Interactive about their upcoming real-time
strategy game: "Our main goal is to deliver a legendary atmosphere where
huge armies led by epic heroes clash on the global battlefields, mighty
wizards spread death and destruction with powerful spells, and where
horrible monsters tower over ranks of warriors. The player could expect to
meet everything that should be included in a good fantasy game. Thus, three
major things that should be experienced in our game are participating in
epic events, revealing the truth behind storyline twists and a struggle in
huge battles."
- Vendetta Online
Experience
Gaming's Vendetta Online Q&A talks with John Bergman, managing director
of Guild Software, about their upcoming space combat MMORPG: "I enjoyed
Origin’s older Wing Commander Series (I only played the first and second),
as well as the LucasArts X-wing and Tie Fighter classics. I was playing one
of these around the time when multiplayer games were first starting to
really gain ground, in the form of modem-Doom. I was also active on the
internet relatively early (well before the advent of the Web), and the basic
concept of a massively multiplayer space game grew from that. The idea of a
game of this type, with the environments and immersion of those old space
games, but with every other ship being an actual person.. It was a pretty
compelling dream for me."

Infogrames suspended, speculation mounts (thanks Mike Martinez) is a story
on the financial wires with word that trading of shares of Infogrames "was
delayed on Friday pending a statement from the company," which has "fuelled
speculation the debt-burdened firm will either announce a restructuring of its
convertible debt or be the target of a takeover bid." Update:
HomeLAN Fed points out the
story has
since been edited to include a response quote from Bruno Bonnell: "Infogrames is
not involved in any discussions regarding a friendly or hostile bid on the
company." Here's more: An Infogrames spokeswoman declined to comment,
saying a statement was expected later in the day.
Shares in Infogrames have rallied 16.6 percent since Tuesday, but are still down
nearly 70 percent this year as investors question the firm's ability to generate
enough cash to remain a sector leader.
Infogrames still needs to repay 117.1 million euros in convertible bonds due in
2005 and 124.3 million euros in bonds due in 2009.
Infogrames has repeatedly been the target of rumours it could end up being
bought by a large U.S. rival like sector leader Electronic Arts (ERTS.O: Quote,
Profile, Research) or by an international media group.
Some traders cited talk Infogrames may bid for British firm Eidos (EID.L: Quote,
Profile, Research) , which has said it was in discussions over a possible sale.
But a source close to Infogrames poured cold water on that hypothesis, saying
the two firms were not in discussions.
HomeLAN Fed reports
receiving word from DreamCatcher that Dungeon Lords is delayed, and that
Heuristic Park's action/RPG is now expected in Q1 2005, rather than in just a
couple of weeks as had been the plan. The reasons for the move follow the
familiar pattern: "We simply want to avoid the holiday rush and give D.W.
Bradley and his team at Heuristic Park the extra time to polish the game up."

- Stolen
The
Stolen Q&A on Warcry News Network is an article-format Q&A with Jaid
Mindang, project director on Stolen, Blue52's upcoming light-fingered
stealth game: "Played in real-time, and taking up one half of the game
screen, the players needs to split their focus between the game world and
the task of the gadget game. The gameplay therefore comes from the context
within which the games are played. A short, playable task becomes all the
more tense when you are completing it under pressure, such as on a guard's
short patrol route or behind his back as he chats to his colleague."
- Richard Burns Rally
The
Richard Burns Rally Q&A on SoundBlaster allows Che Lalic to sound off
about the audio portion of Richard Burns Rally, Warthog's new rally racing
game: "Reverb is essential, but it’s also very hard to get right. You have
to take everything into account. Take for example the 'Early Reflections'.
The time it takes for the sound to reflect from the ground, we are talking
about just milliseconds, but these effects are so important."
- Joint Operations: Escalation
HomeLAN
Fed's Joint Operations: Escalation Q&A talks with Joel Taubel about
NovaLogic's upcoming Joint Ops expansion: "We have 8 new vehicles, including
the M1A1 Abrams, The Apache attack chopper and my personal favorite, the
dirt bike. One of the things we learned from JO was that people wanted more
powerful attack vehicles and faster means of transportation into the Hot
Zones. This is what we have given them in Escalation."
Though it's not yet listed on the
