TRIBES Vengeance Demo Glitch

Vivendi sends along word that the TRIBES: Vengeance multiplayer demo planned for release today has a problem, so they want to warn folks that might accidentally download a buggy program:

On Monday, September 27th an incorrect version of the Tribes:Vengeance demo was seeded to several file hosts on the Internet for distribution at 10am Pacific Daylight Time on Tuesday, September 28th. While attempts have been made to contact everyone who received the file, we are concerned that the demo will be made available anyway. Thus we are taking the added step of sending out a consumer alert to make sure that nobody downloads the Tribes:Vengeance demo on Tuesday, September 28th.

The team at Irrational Games and Vivendi Universal Games are working diligently to prepare a new version of the demo and anticipate it being ready very shortly. While embarrassing, we realize that an alert like this is a better alternative than putting out a buggy demo. Our sincerest apologies.

Ships Ahoy - Crusader Kings

Paradox Entertainment sends word that Crusader Kings, their medieval strategy game, is now available in U.S. stores:

Stockholm, Sweden (Sept 28, 2004) – Paradox Entertainment announced today that the strategy game Crusader Kings has shipped to retail stores nationwide for the PC. Crusader Kings has a SRP of $39.99 and has been rated E for Everyone.

Based on the award-winning Europa Universalis engine, Crusader Kings was recently honored with a coveted spot on GameSpot’s PC Strategy Roundup 2004. In addition, the game has won accolades from the gaming press, including an Editor’s Choice award from Strategy Gaming Online and a Top Pick award from Game Vortex.

“Crusader Kings features all the elements strategy gamers are looking for and we are unbelievably proud of the Paradox development team and their outstanding ability to continue bringing top quality strategy games to the North American market,” said Fredrik Lindgren, Director of Sales and Marketing for Paradox Entertainment.

Crusader Kings focuses on the feudal kingdoms of medieval Europe, as players become the leader of a glorious dynasty and struggle to increase the greatness of their lands through nearly 400 years of detailed, challenging gameplay. Multiplayer mode heats up the battle as up to 8 players compete for prestige and piety. And, as an added bonus, players can add an incredible 400 years of historical gameplay to their adventure by exporting their finished Crusader Kings game into the world of Europa Universalis 2.

Morning Q&As

  • Meqon
HomeLAN Fed's MEQON Q&A talks with Marcus Lysén of Meqon about their just-announced deal to provide the physics engine for Duke Nukem Forever: "It's fast, it's multiplatform and has the best API structure of any physics engine. Moreover we have world class character animation/simulation blending and a top-notch vehicle module."
  • Twilight War: After the Fall
RPG Vault's Twilight War: After the Fall Q&A, Part 1 talks with Kingsley Montgomery and Matthew Simmons of Smiling Gator Productions about their recently unveiled source-engine MMORPG: "...we've coined a new term to describe Twilight War, XORG, which stands for Extreme Online Role-playing Game. Why? Because we hate acronyms that you can't easily pronounce. :-) Also, because we think the combination of AI, graphics, storyline and adrenaline will truly be something that's never been achieved before."
  • BioWare
What's Up, Doc on Voodoo Extreme talks with BioWare joint-CEOs Dr. Ray Muzyka and Dr. Greg Zeschuk: "If anything, this licensure of a high-quality externally developed engine serves as a bridge to allow us to get a next-gen PC and/or console game done in a timely manner, and helps us to continue to diversify the kind of RPGs we make. We have a very large fan base at BioWare (two million+ members at the Bioware Community at www.bioware.com) and we recognize that it helps us to continue to grow our community by expanding the definition of RPGs, while still retaining the core of a great story, compelling character interactions, epic exploration and really fun character progression."
  • Atlantis Evolution
There's an Atlantis Evolution Q&A on Adventure Gamers talking with Eric Safar of Atlantis Interactive Entertainment about Atlantis Evolution, their upcoming adventure game based on the sunken city: "We are using a proprietary engine based on point & click navigation and warping. We also made enhancements such as the water effects. We pre-rendered a shader in a 3D rendering software that we improved with a homemade plug-in. We decided to use this engine for Atlantis Evolution because most adventure gamers are familiar with this type of navigation and don’t need to first learn the game functions. They can just dive into the story."
  • Meridian 59
The Meridian 59 Q&A on GameRifts discusses Meridian59- Resurrection with Brian Green of NearDeath Studios: "Currently, the game requires a Pentium I (yes, ONE) 100 MHz or better machine with 48 MB of memory. Our estimated minimum requirements for the new rendering engine will be a GeForce 2 or equivalent video card, DirectX 8.1, a 500 MHz processor and 128 MB of memory. These new requirements are subject to change as we work out the last few kinks and problems. But, I think most people will be able to play the game without problems if they bought their computer within the last few years."

Out of the Blue

Man -- we have another tropical storm heading up the east coast... sympathies to the folks in the southeast who got to experience yet another hurricane. On a much more mundane note, I still haven't gotten to the overgrown half of my lawn since I let it turn into a jungle, if I don't get to that before this next downpour I may be faced with a problem impossible to overcome with just a lawnmower. On the other hand, I picked up a new snow shovel today, it has one of those back-friendly bends in the handle, so at least I'm as ahead of the game on snow-removal as I am behind on gardening.
