No Win98 DOOM 3

Evening Q&As

  • Citizen Zero
RPG Vault Citizen Zero Q&A, Part 3 continues their extended look at Micro Forte's upcoming MMOG by chatting with designer Paul McInnes: "The game is built on two types of action, outdoor adventures and missions, each providing quite different game experiences. Of the two, missions are more important. Indeed, we have a saying with Citizen Zero that the "mission is the monster". Players will learn to think of missions and types of missions as the equivalent of a major monster in a traditional MMOG, requiring special tactics to defeat them and offering distinctive rewards in the form of loot if you are successful."
  • Moscow Rush
There's a Moscow Rush Q&A on Gamer's Hell discussing the upcoming driving game with an unnamed developer from Buka, and there's also a Moscow Rush Q&A on FileFront also discussing the game with Peter Porai-Koshits.

Lineage Expands

NCsoft sends words that the new Heaven and Earth episode for Lineage is now available in North America:

AUSTIN, Texas, July 27, 2004—NCsoft® Corporation (KSE: 036570.KS), the world’s leading developer and publisher of online computer games, today announces the latest chapter to its massively multiplayer game, Lineage®. Lineage 1, Episode 2: Heaven and Earth, launches today on North American servers and gives players even more areas to explore and creatures to battle. It also introduces the Lastabad Dark Elf army, which is wreaking havoc on the towns and castles of Lineage’s fictional world of Aden.

The Lastabad have laid waste to the town of Gludin and now threaten every castle in the kingdom. If the marauding Dark Elves take over a castle, heavier taxes will be imposed on players in nearby villages.

In addition to this new gripping storyline, Heaven and Earth unveils many other new features. A completely renovated user interface improves the game experience for players. Included in the improvements—visual spell delay timers, overhead hit point (HP) and mana point (MP) visuals, and text macro and chat text color display options.

There are new quests including a high level Dark Elf quest, which provides players with the “Finger of Death,” an assassin’s blade capable of poisoning its target.

Pets can now evolve past their current state of simply following and fighting. In the Heaven and Earth expansion, some pets will have access to more powerful magic and can equip special pet weapons and armor

Heaven and Earth also offers more regions to explore, more items, weapons, armor, creatures and monsters including the dreaded Grim Reaper.

Lineage is currently available via free download at http://www.lineage.com or players can request a free CD via U.S. mail from NCsoft. Lineage comes with a 7-day free trial period. After that, a subscription of US$15 per month is required to continue playing. Customers can save money by purchasing four months in a single transaction at a rate of US$11.25 per month.

Evening Previews

Pacific Heroes == Fighter Pilot

The WWII Fighter Pilot Website is the homebase for a newly announced World War II arcade aerial combat game due for the PC this October at a value price point. Here's a bit: "As a pilot patrolling the skies of the Pacific, your life is pretty simple. Slice into the enemy with hot metal or end up as food for the sharks when he does the same to you. Never has this knife-edge moment of truth been so exhilarating as recreated in WWII Fighter Pilot. Soar through a sky dimpled with the lingering puffs of anti-aircraft fire. Scratch that itchy trigger finger with an arsenal of machine guns, artillery, torpedoes, and even air-to-ground rockets. Choose from the savage speed of the Corsair or the thundering beast that is the Dauntless bomber. WWII Fighter Pilot drops you into the heart-throttling action of the Pacific Campaign with addictive point and shoot arcade gameplay and unparalleled 3D graphics. So join up and learn what air combat really means. The first lesson: life begins at 20,000 feet." Update: It turns out that this is actually the game also known as WWII Pacific Heroes with a different name for its North American release (thanks Frans).

  • EQ2 X2
The EverQuest Q&A Part I on Computer And Video Games kicks off a four part series on SOE's upcoming MMORPG sequel by talking with EQ2 producer Andy Sites and part two of the Q&A is also now online. This is from part one: "We're not going to be forcing this game out the door though just for the sake of meeting fiscal needs. We've been stating that all along. This is going to be the game that's the sequel to the game that made the company what it is today. So we want the game to be a worthy successor to EverQuest."
  • Jump to Lightspeed
HomeLAN Fed's Star Wars Galaxies: Jump To Lightspeed Q&A talks with Cinco Barnes about the upcoming spaceflight expansion for the Star Wars MMORPG: "Everyone will have the ability to obtain a very basic ship from a mission-giving NPC from the start. The idea is to get people into space and adventuring as soon as Jump to Lightspeed launches. But an entry-level ship will not get you very far. Players will want to upgrade and begin customizing as soon as possible and crafters pursuing the shipwright profession will have ample business, providing an infusion to that segment of the economy almost immediately."

Out of the Blue

I got out to see the Bourne Supremacy yesterday... it really was satisfying to use the free pass from the Bourne Identity DVD to get in, but I would have enjoyed the movie even if I had to pay. I grew up a big fan of James Bond, but that series has gone pretty haywire over the years... in fact when it struck me during the movie how much more realistic Bourne is than Bond, it then occurred to me that the Spider-Man movies are also more grounded in reality than the Bond series is at this point. Enjoying the movies means I should probably avoid reading Ludlum's original Bourne books, though, as my buddy MrCoffee had trouble enjoying the first movie because he's such a big fan of the books... I hate when that happens.
