Insurrection 1776 for BF Vietnam

In conjunction with the Fourth of July, the debut alpha release of the Insurrection 1776 modification for Battlefield Vietnam is now available. Here's the deal: "It features unique 18th-century style warfare, and because there are no full-auto weapons, servers can run with larger amounts of people than standard Battlefield Vietnam servers can normally handle well. The main weapon in this game is the musket, and the variants thereof. They are one-shot muzzle loaders, so you need to make your shots count, or be prepared for melee combat either with your knife or with your bayonet. Melee is far from a rarely-used last resort in Insurrection 1776."

New Doomsday

Doomsday HQ now offers a new version 1.8.0 of the Doomsday version of the DOOM engine is now available (thanks Frans). Word is: "As far as I'm concerned, the 1.8.x series will see no new major features. I intend to keep fixing the remaining issues and generally maintaining the codebase, but I want to shift my attention to other projects, such as Doomsday 2.0 (a.k.a. Hawthorn)."

RtCW FritzBot

The debut release of the FritzBot for Return to Castle Wolfenstein is now available. Word is: "Fritz bot plays the game mode Capture Point. Design at this stage is still pretty early, but I have released a preview demo demonstrating the work I have done so far. The only map supported in this demo is MP_DESTRUCTION, with more being supported in the future as the mod matures."

Out of the Blue

Happy Independence Day to all you independent types out there. True to the plan, we had our commemoration for the event yesterday, as we went to a cookout. The area we were visiting is as quiet as our own, so not much in the way of explosions was going on, but we remedied that with some fireworks a couple of our mutant crew had acquired. The plan was to keep things quiet, and they picked out things that were more about lights and color than kabooms, as much for the sanity of the assembled pets as anything. Unfortunately some of them turned out to be quite loud nonetheless, causing Hudson the wonder dog in particular to freak out. We decided to try one more for a finale, but the firework that was labeled as producing "flashes of colored light" also turned out to cause the most noise of all, provoking my freaked out dog to wet their floor. All-in-all Huddy had just as good a time as we did, but this certainly ended the evening on a sour note for her. Luckily, as I mentioned, it's quite quiet around here, so we haven't heard any explosions so far, and don't expect much to come.

Anyway, happy fourth, and please be careful with those fireworks... it's all fun until someone loses an eye (or pees on the floor).
