Battlefield 1942 SitRep

A quick community update on the Battlefield 1942 Website (thanks Frans) has some new year's wishes, an update on the mapping contest, and the latest on the upcoming version 1.6 patch for DICE's World War II shooter:
The 1.6 patch is still in testing here at EA. We have one more issue to nail down so please be patient...it will definitely be worth the wait. We've tested most of the mods with the 1.6 patch and a few are not working correctly. The mods which are problematic include:
  • Interstate '42
  • Galactic Conquest
  • Eve of Destruction
  • Battlegroup 42
We will be releasing a debug executable with the 1.6 patch. This debug will log assertion errors, allowing modders to determine what's causing problems in their mod as well as optimize it for best performance.

Out of the Blue

Man has it gotten cold! I was definitely enjoying the unseasonable warmness that marked the end of 2003 around these parts. At approximately 0.0001% body fat, I am just not built for cold snaps. On that topic, Ice Age Ancestry May Keep Body Warmer and Healthier (registration required) is an article sent along today by linkmeister general Mike Martinez with a bit on the science behind keeping warm. This just makes me wonder how my ancestors made it through the ice age, as if they adapted to the cold, it's hard to see what of that they passed along to me. I am pretty good at building campfires (and in more civilized moments, working the thermostat).... maybe that's my genetic gift in this regard.
