A post from last week on Gameplanet
(thanks the Junkyard) says that the
latest New Zealand release schedule from Electronic Arts lists a new add-on
called Battlefield 1942: Secret Weapons scheduled to ship in September of this
year. No further details are provided other than a listed $49.95 MSRP
(presumably in N.Z. currency, which would be about $28.00 in the U.S.).
A
post to our forums by Digitalo's Vic DeLeon reproduces a post he also made to the
Devastation forums saying that they are hearing the displeasure folks are
expressing about their displeasure at hearing the sounds in the Devastation
demo: The majority has spoken. Apparently this was a legitimate enough
gripe and we will comply like the good developers we are trying to be. Most of
the weapon sounds will be given an overhaul, with more bass, and pitch
adjustments. I cannot promise anything but these changes should be in the full
patch.
HomeLan Fed's Deux Ex: Invisible War
Q&A talks with several of the developers of ION Storm's upcoming
shooter/RPG sequel, learning their feelings about the original Deus Ex and about
plans for the follow-up, as demonstrated in this answer from producer Bill
"Show Me The" Money: "We wanted to improve upon the areas of the
first game that we felt were weak. Making the game even less linear, giving the
player more room for self-_expression and being more accessible to both hardcore
and casual gamers were our major development goals."
The Captain
Scarlet Q&A on HARDWiRED talks with Philip Harris of Batfish studios
about the recently revealed plans to create a tactical action game based
on the supermarionation TV series. The conversation covers several aspects of
how gameplay will unfold, including the make-up of your squad: "you control
a small team of Spectrum agents, up to six per level. Each character has their
own abilities and equipment and it's up to you to use those characters and
abilities to achieve the objectives of the level, be that rescuing aircraft
pilots or stopping the destruction of a crucial oil refinery."
There's a Rise of Nations
Preview on ToTheGame offering quick impressions of Big Huge Games' upcoming
big huge RTS game. They provide a rundown on gameplay, and conclude: "This
is a very good RTS with a few new twists and great looks. It doesn’t give the
genre anything completely new, but it gives us exactly what we expect and want,
in a very professional manner."
As promised, build 111 of Overload

this UT2003 modification that features teamplay based on diminishing the
opposing side's team health. This release includes a new map and adds bot
support, among other changes.

I guess the Oscars®©™ are tonight, but for someone like me who only sees
movies when they show up on cable, it's hard to get caught up in the
competition. Maybe I should tape these shows annually... if I did that, I could
watch last year's show this year, which I would be more set to appreciate, now
that I've seen some of the nominated movies.
We have a pop-up situation here with a rogue ad showing up every one in a
while... this probably will go unaddressed until tomorrow due to the weekend.
Sorry about that. Update: The problem got so bad that I pulled what I
believe is the offending ad code.
