A new version 1.6 of America's Army Operations has been announced as a premium
service download on the America's Army
Website, where it says: "This Version 1.6 update expands the importance
of rules of engagement and teamwork within America's Army due to its
introduction of non-combatants in the new 'Radio Tower' non-combatant rescue
mission. New functionality such as the addition of projectile penetration and
ricochets add increased realism to game scenarios. Version 1.6 also marks the
transition of America's Army to the production version of Unreal's version 2110
engine." This paid download is for the full version of the game, and
meanwhile, an America's Army patch has appeared on several sites for download,
but we have been told the official patch will appear on the official website,
and event the developers aren't sure whether this is a beta or not. Here is a
quote from Abraxas from IRC: "People, stop asking me about the patch. We
only develop the game, we do not distribute. None of the Devs can tell you
anything. Obviously, there has been a snafu. The Army is aware of it and is
working on the situation." Meanwhile, there is now a mirror of the full
version 1.6 download on FileShack
(registration required).

supplies of a free promo CD with two playable levels and a high-quality video
from the game. Word is that you must be 16 years of age or older to participate,
and while we assume the German-language offer from this German company is open
to German residents only, the page does not actually specifically say anything
about residency requirements. Thanks badman.

offer rude language, but no blood.

The first details have been revealed about HYBRID,
and upcoming 3D science fiction first-person shooter in the works at Vulcan Software. The
game will put the player in the role of Lieutenant Marek Hale who is "awoken
by alarms, explosions and the screams of crew members" while serving on the
resource and cargo ship Navasota. Here's how the game is described in the
announcement: "Hybrid is a real-time 3D First Person Shooter, set in a
technologically rich future and spanning three unique space-themed locations,
ranging from the cargo ship Navasota, to the hostile surroundings of the
Neptunian moon Nereid. Hybrid takes elements of it's dark atmosphere from some
of the best loved cult science-fiction movies and stories of our time, and
presents the player with a level of detail to game-play, environments and
characters that are designed to be both compelling and terrifying for their
believability. The player, equipped with a wealth of firepower must embark on a
single-handed assault on the alien hybrid race that has killed both the crew of
the Navasota and the occupants of the research and mining facility on the moons
surface."

Happy Saint Patrick's Day! Please be especially careful on the roads today, as
sucking down vats of green beer impedes one's ability to drive as badly as the
amber kind, so there are bound to be some of those inevitable drunk drivers
prowling about. And of course, please don't get behind the wheel if you've been
indulging yourself... we need the visitors. ;)
